The first thing I did to learn about the source was going on Wikipedia, but I couldn’t find a post for the website, only the league itself. So then I went on twitter and discovered that the twitter did have the checkmark signifying it is the official hockey twitter.
The next thing I did was go to other sites to see if they recounted this history similarly, which brought me to this article
Even though it is more broad, the parts relating to the first year matches to the NHL.com article. Next I went to Wikipedia;
Which also reported similar events.
I believe the article in question, is true!
