English 9 – Debate dialogue

In this post, I will be talking about an assignment I was proud of in English 9. The project was to create a debate dialogue between three characters of a novel we read together in class.

The novel we read together was called “Dear Martin”. It was related to our BLM unit and it was about a black teenage boy who was going through many difficult events throughout his life because of his race.

We worked on this project in parters and my parter and I thought it would be interesting to use the question ‘Should underage teenagers be tried and treated as adults are?’ because we thought it related to the novel in some ways and we thought it would be a good way to bring out the voices of the characters from the novel.

I was proud of this assignment because I really did learn a lot from this unit and I think I was able to work with my parter and create a debate dialogue that addressed our main topic well and brought out the character’s personalities. Below is the link to the document.

Break the Fake – Netflix Tests Ways to Stop Password Sharing

1. This is an article I found on the internet after doing a quick search of Netlfix’s latest news. It’s about how 20-30% of Netflix users share a. Netflix account with people outside of their household, and how Netflix is sending out verification messages to select users to verify that they qualify to use the account.

2. The source of this article is CTV News. I already know that this news platform is trustworthy, but I visited their social media pages to get to know the source better. Their accounts on both Instagram and Twitter have the blue checkmark, verifying that they really are who they say they are.

3. Next, I searched them up on wikipedia to further improve my knowledge of the news platform. ON the wikipedia page, I found out that CTV News has been around in Canada since 1972 and that they are indeed a trustworthy website.

4. After verifying the source, I searched up the topic on Snopes.com to verify that this news wasn’t made up. Snopes.com verified that the news was true.

5. Lastly, just to make extra sure that it’s true, I searched “Netflix password sharing hoax” on google and didn’t find anything that contradicted the article.

After going through all of these steps to “break the fake”, I came to a conclusion that the news about Netflix sending out verification messages is true.

Logo Design

In this post, I will be talking about a project we had to do in Drafting. The assignment was to create a logo for ourselves to put on a cusotmized t-shirt. I decided to use the character Shin-chan, because he was always one of my favourite animated characters.

The reason I’m so proud of this assignment is because I’ve never actually used a designing program like Autocad, which is the one we used. I had to learn everything from scratch, and I thought this project was a good example of all the basic skills I learned in a fairly short amount of time. This project took a lot of time and effort and I was happy with how it turned out on the T-shirt.

Below is a a screenshot I took of my logo.

Netflix’s History

In this post, I will be talking about the history of Netflix, a streaming service available all around the world. I chose this topic because I spend lots of my free time on this app and I love to do so. I’m Korean and personally I enjoy Korean content, so I really appreciate the fact that Netflix offers international content. Netflix is the biggest streaming service in the world, but I’ve always wondered how long it has been around and how it started, because I use their service very often, but know nothing about its history and roots, so for this assignment, I asked myself the question “How and when was Netflix founded and what was it like in its early stages?

Netflix was founded in 1997 but wasn’t the same streaming service that it is now. When the service was first released, it was company that rented out DVDs by mail, and customers would have to pay for each DVD that was rented out but soon they changed their company to a subscription-based service where customers could rent out an unlimited amount of movies or shows with a monthly fee.

Unlike companies like Blockbuster, Netflix had a feature that recommended shows and movies to customers. This helped feature helped the company in many different ways. For example, they would recommend older movies and shows to its customers because it costed more to rent new releases

In 2007, Netflix created a way to stream videos and movies on the internet and watch them on demand. The streaming company had created partnerships with companies that had devices that could access the internet, such as Microsoft, Nintendo and Apple to increase the number of devices that could use the service.

Since 2012, Netflix has started creating its original content. The first show that they produced was called “Lilyhammer”. In 2016, Netflix announced that they are trying to increase the ratio of their original shows to content from other creators. Since then, shows and films such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, The Square and Stranger things have won awards like Emmys and Golden Globes. I wondered why Netflix wanted to create their own content when they could have just kept on streaming content from deals and partnerships. I couldn’t find a direct answer to this, but I came down to two answers: Because they wanted more promotion and it would help cut down on their expenses.

Science 9 – Biology mini inquiry

In science 9, we had to do a mini inquiry project on anything biology related.

My project was about which of our many traits are genetically inherited. I’m proud of this project because I spent lots of time and put lots of effort into this project and I was satisfied with how it turned out.
