Coast Salish Art

How has your awareness of Coast Salish Art in our community changed?

My awareness on Coast Salish art has changed a lot, now that I understand there is a deeper meaning in what it means. I learnt that the animals of the Coast Salish art, each have their own meanings which was very interesting to learn about. For example I learnt that the eagle is a symbol of power and prestige as well as peace and friendship. The eagle also is a spiritual guide. I also just now learnt that the there are shapes, specific to native people and that they also each have their own meanings. As an example the three pointed shape, the trigon shape has three surface point with a fourth inner point depicted as a inner cut. These points represent seasons, stages of life which are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life. Overall my knowledge and awareness of of Coast Salish art has expanded much more and and was something that was interesting to learn about.

Core Competencies 9

The core competency I chose of personal awareness and social responsibility fits well with my assignment because I used learning goals to improve on my Friday runs and I used strategies which to help me run mor efficiently and create a tool that I could use every run.

What I learnt from using the digital tool Canva, was that it was very useful in creating a layout and design for projects for example and it was easy to use. Some challenges were that sometimes when I wanted to move a text box or shape, it would just go back into the text mode. This wasn’t a big deal thought, as I just clicked the edge of the textbox and moved it from there.
