Take your kids to work day

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 6th? Use details

The workplace was big with three hangars as it was an aerial firefighting workplace.

I heard people working on many different things. Inside one of the hangars, you could see the mechanics working on the planes, using special equipment, getting them ready/ to fly out for delivery or for firefighting. You could see the different planes parked outside. The workspace felt organized and collaborative between workers. Overall, the workspace felt comfortable.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? Why?

Knowing that the environment Is enjoyable and comfortable and having coworkers that would be happy to help me as well as having a fun job. I think I would also want to attend work because of the cool environment.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work? Why?

The distance since the workplace is in Abbotsford which is far from Coquitlam. Getting there would take lots of time if you were to use public transportation which would mean you would have to get up very

early to be on time. If you were to use a car it would be more efficient, but fuel costs would take lots of money to get there.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit? Why?

I think one thing i found interesting about the workplace was that it was an aerial firefighting workplace because I think it would make working there special.

Summary of my visit

When I went to the workplace, I went to the different hangars. It was interesting because I got to see people working on the different aircrafts inside the hangar. We even did an activity that was designed to train aircraft technicians because it trained them to work in closed spaces. Once we finished the activity, we went to go see the water basin. It holds about 10,000 liters of water and is attached to the aircrafts. The purpose for this large amount of water is because it’s meant to extinguish fires. How it work is its powered by hydraulic systems which open and close the basin. Before you release the water you can choose how much you release. Once you chose how much water you want to release you press a red button and the basin flaps open, releasing the water store inside. Once we were done checking out the fire extinguishing system, we went to go outside to see the planes. What I found interesting about the planes were some were being sold and others were in service for the company. Once we were done checking out the planes my visit was over. What I learnt from my visit to Conair was the work life and the cool things about the planes.
