For the “Break the fake” Part 2 assignment, I found a tweet online about the new omicron variant. It is stating that the new variant is spreading fast like wildfire, but is not killing anyone. I wanted to check this, as all of the other COVID-19 variants seem to be spreading, infecting, and killing.

Steps taken:

I looked at the profile that the picture was posted on, and there is a checkmark next to their name, so they are who they say they are. However I wanted to double check these facts so I went to snopes.com and typed in some key phrases.

When I searched it up, I got a false rating and it also says that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that one person who tested positive for the variant had died.

When I searched up key words into google, there are many reliable news companies that uploaded stories about deaths from the omicron variant.

My Judgement call: Based on all the evidence I collected and the checking my resources, I say that this claim is false and that there are people that died from the omicron variant.
