Food Photography

These are some of the props that I chose. When looking around my house, I tried finding neutral colored items. I wanted all my pictures to look eye catching without the need of bright color. I also love the look of tans, whites and blacks coming together. It makes any picture look put together. I like this picture because you can see many items but you won’t know how many more there are. I originally took a birds-eye view picture of my props. You could see every single thing I’d put on my counter. But after using crop, I realized this was different. I don’t usually zoom in for pictures that I take so I tried something new. There isn’t a story involved in this picture. I just used certain items you would use to make a certain food. With these props you could make cupcakes or cookies. If you look around, you can see I have cookie cutter, dry measures and cupcake liners scattered around.

This is my first picture from the photoshoot. From my props picture you can see there’s a wooden spoon, oven mitts, a candle and a plant. I made sure this picture was zoomed out and clear so you could see everything this time. I placed the food in a glass bowl so it would add to the simplicity of everything since I love simple decorations. I added a plant to bring out the green colors in the image. Even though it’s almost out of frame, you can tell it makes the color pop out. The white background is also simple, bringing more attention to the food.

In this picture I tried to capture a blurred background. I wanted to create a nice different type of picture. I like how you can see so much detail in the plant because of how up close it is. It shows you how the different shades of green come together.  I like the way you can still see everything behind it even though it’s still a blur. When taking all these photos I thought ahead and made all the preparations in the morning so I could be ready by the afternoon. I put the shoot near an open window that brought in a lot of natural light. This helped so much because it made every angle so clear and bright. I barely had to edit anything from the shoot.

For this picture I tried to work on angles. Angles make pictures more appealing and show the many corners and spots that you wouldn’t have seen before. From my first picture,  you already know what I’ve placed in the photoshoot. This is why I chose to show the birds-eye view image first. Now I can show any angles or perspective I want and you’ll always know the four things I’ve added. In this picture you see more of the purple oven mitt which hasn’t been shown much. You can also see the golden candle in the back. All the different colors and layers of shades are more easily shown in this picture. This is because the plant was more off camera when I took this. The green of the plant and the green of the food usually come together to stand out more than everything else. I like how this angle of the image helped show a different perspective where green isn’t everything to it.

This is the last picture from my photoshoot. In it you can see I chose to zoom in again. I liked how it looked for my props so I thought it would be a good idea to show again. For all my pictures like I said before, I had good lighting. There were no problems with shadows or darkness. Everything was highlighted, you could see the tiny spices in the food, the wax in the candle, the lines on the leaves of the plant. I decided to finish the shoot I would add a bit extra to each of my photos. I imported them all to VSCO and added a filter called C1. This filter brought out the green in the picture a lot. It also added an underdone of blue which I really liked.
