How dose the usage and production of internet effect the environment?

The production of internet cables seems to run across the world. I have no doubt it will continue to grow as the world becomes accustomed to the growing usage of technologies. With technology, come internet. the cables that run across the streets of our city, but is the constant production of these cables heathy for our environment? 

there are two types of cables that produce internet to our homes, fiber optic and copper cables.

1. fiber optic cables have a vast amount of PVC, rubber, wire and metals that negatively contribute to climate change and the heating of the world, for the making of these products produce a lot of chemical and air pollution.
2. copper cables are a little more sustainable in the fact, that they use less destructive material in there production. copper can also be re used, however the rubber that is burred in to proses of making these weirs are also polluting the air with chemical gases.

it is also required to look at the amount produced each year with over 6 football fields worth of cables produced each year, With a constant need for more.
