Engineering Design Process Part 2

After discussing with my partner about my ideas earlier on the day, we have decided to do a silent alarm, instead of a loud alarm. We have decided to do this as we figured that if the alarm sounds very loudly, it will scare the people away, as well as wake up many guests. By creating the silent alarm, instead of scaring the enemy away, we want to notify security with the alarm. This was, the enemy won’t even know that they have triggered the alarm, then security will come and question the unknown visitor. We plan on starting to code the microbit during tomorrows advisory class. I’ve never used a microbit before, but I’ve used the coding app Scratch in middle school, so I suspect that it works the same way. I think that there is a sensor tool on the microbit, so we will use that to create our prototype for this assignment. However, as I have never used microbit before, I do not know what tools they have, meaning that our ideas for this project may vary, depending on tomorrow’s events. I am very excited to start working on this project!

Engineering Design Process Sheet part 1

My partner and I have found a modern problem related to apartments these days. We realized that it is unsafe late at night in apartments and we don’t know if someone will rob the apartment at night. This can make apartments extremely unsafe we have decided to find a solution to this problem. The people who live in the apartment have a remote control that they must point at the sensor at night so the alarm won’t go off. Unknown guests will trigger the alarm and they will not know about this system. Our design is to make an alarm that goes off starting at 11:30pm. The people who live in the apartment may turn this off with a remote control that they own. There will be a sensor secretly behind the door, so that if someone walks near it without shutting it off, then the alarm will ring, to scare the unknowns away.
