Coast Salish Spirit Animal

What steps did you take to choose your spirit animal? What qualities or traits do you personally associate with your spirit animal? Did this process help you learn anything new about yourself?

To select my spirit animal, I took a survey consisting of 8 questions, wrote my answers down and I also looked through each animals description to see which animal fit me the best. Each answer would be an animal and after you complete the questions you count the number of times each same animal appear. The rabbit appeared the most so it now represents my spirit animal for now. Rabbits are associated with fear and creativity because of their timid nature. They remind us that the things we flee from will haunt us until we confront them, and what we fear the most is what we will ultimately become. Personally, I associate with the rabbit because I am shy in social situations and I have several things that I fear making me similar to the rabbit. This process of finding my spirit animal helped me learn that I should face my fears instead of avoiding them and I am very similar to a rabbit which might explain why it is my spirit animal.

Break the Fake

  1. This is what I found when searching for articles and I’m going find out if this article is true or fake. This article is about the fashion retailer Shein, facing a lawsuit for allegedly producing, distributing, and selling the exact copies of three designers work.
  2. I went to check the source CTV News and its account had a gold checkmark beside it which means the account is verified.
  3. Next, I went on Wikipedia and searched CTV News. After reading the article I found out that CTV News is a pretty reliable news channel that also operates the 24-hour news channel CTV News Channel and the 24-hour national business news channel BNN Bloomberg. This shows that CTV News is a good source for news since it also operates two other popular channels.
  4. I did some research using snopes.com, however it only showed one article on Shein which was not related to the lawsuit.
  5. Finally, I searched “Shein lawsuit” on Google and it did not show many stories on the lawsuit so I searched “Shein lawsuit RICO violations” which showed several articles all about the lawsuit.

Therefore, based on all the evidence shown, this story is true and Shein received a lawsuit on RICO violations however we do not know if this continued and if Shein was charged.
Here is the link to the article: Shein hit with lawsuit citing RICO violations

Take Your Kid To Work Day

For take your kid to work day, I went to Hillcrest Middle School since I could not stay with my parents. I stayed in Ms. Knights classroom, who was my former teacher and watched her teach her students. They read the last chapter of Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen and had a class discussion about some questions related to the book. I was able to ask the students about what they had been learning and their experience with their classmates so far. I also got to see a lot of my old friends and spent break times catching up with them. After lunch, the students had explorations so I went with my friend to her exploration and in the last block they were learning how to conjugate words in French. I had an amazing time watching the students learn and talk with their friends and it was a great opportunity for me to see what they are learning and how they are being taught.

  1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?

I heard the loud yells of the class when they began talking before class started and their answers to the daily “would you rather” questions. I felt safe in the work environment because I knew that if something went wrong the staff would keep me and the students safe. I smelt a lot of candy because the kids were eating food in the morning, and I could smell it from my seat. I saw the posters that were placed around the classroom about their subjects, and I found my last year’s classes assignment that was posted on the board as an example. I felt proud of what we did and happy that the teacher placed it as an example for her new class.

  1. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

I think that looking forward to seeing the class and teaching them subjects I love would motivate me to wake up every morning to attend work and teach. The teacher always gives them a would you rather at the beginning of class to help calm them down and focus their mind. I would look forward to thinking of one every day and looking forward to hearing their answers.

  1. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

Something about the work environment that would discourage me from waking up every day to attend is that the class would be loud and chaotic in the morning which would probably give me a headache early in the morning. They are very energetic and if the class was yelling and screaming in the morning, I would get mad at them and not look forward to continuing teaching them.

  1. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

Something that I found interesting in the workplace was how the kids in the class were very talkative and chatty. The class seemed to like each other and were laughing and talking when they received free time. I found this interesting because last year when I was in grade 8, my class did not talk to each other, and we only talked to the people in our friend group. Another interesting thing I found out about was that the whole class was eating when class began. I don’t know if it was because it was Halloween the day before, however every kid was eating chips and candy at 8:50 in the morning.
