I went to work with both of my parents in Vancouver. We started the day at 6:30 and dropped off my sisters at school. We got breakfast and drove to check on job sites and communicated with clients, architects/designers, workers on job sites. We drove for at least 4 hours from houses to offices to more houses.
1.What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?
I heard many phone calls between clients and my parents, I saw one of the projects/houses they were working on and met their designer, and I felt cold.
2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?
When being an entrepreneur your schedule is extremely flexible which I think is something that would motivate me to attend a job like my parents have. Their job also requires timeless amounts of driving, I was in the car the whole morning which I liked because I could see the view of Vancouver and the nature that surrounds us. We left at 8am and got home at 12pm and they completed their work at home.
3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?
Though car rides can be fun, I don’t enjoy being stuck in traffic constantly. Another con to their job is that you must be patient with business partners and explain what you need in grave detail so it will be done correctly. You cannot fully rely on anyone to do a job correctly unless you are there instructing them constantly.
4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?
I found it interesting how my parents only worked 5 hours outside and finished their work all at home because I always thought they would come to pick us up from school right after they finished work. Though meetings and schedules constantly fluctuate.
