Communication

I express communication in gym class when I discuss with my peers about the activity we are doing and when we are working in groups. I can explain the activity and understand what we are doing. Using the information I learned, I put it into our presentations. I showed this skill in our figures unit, using the skills we learned and putting them into our routine. I know that my French is not strong, so I ask my friends for help. I used to just say the words in English but now I think about it or ask people for help.

In group settings, I can collaborate with others and understand them. We listen to each other’s opinions and implement them into our routine. I contribute to group activities to the best of my abilities. I give any suggestions that I have and am open to new ideas from others.

Thinking skills

In gym class, I can express critical thinking by being open to new suggestions and opinions and asking questions when I am confused. When we were creating our gym routine, we were trying a form but since many people couldn’t do it and it was very difficult to do, we changed the form.

Using others’ ideas, I can build off them and add more of my own. During the routine, I thought of different moves we did and shared with the group. When we used my ideas, it felt good that they used my ideas, and it became a part of our routine. I took moves that I learned from my extracurriculars to add into the routine, and it helped create more ideas and opportunities for different moves.

I could demonstrate social responsibility when there were problems. I showed this during our gym routine when someone couldn’t make a move so we changed the routine a little to fit what they could do. We were able to change the routine and include them in the moves.

Personal and social skills

I showed that I was able to persevere in a difficult situation when we had to learn to do a handstand. I kept doing it and I was finally able to do a handstand. Although it was frustrating to create the routine sometimes, we persevered and stayed calm. When we were calm, we were able to make better choices.

Why are medical errors the third leading cause of death in Canada

My goal for the topic I chose was to show how you should always double check what you do in a hospital since one of the highest causes of deaths is medical errors. I think people should be more aware about what happens to them self-hospital hospitals and medical scenarios. My goal was to research medical errors and understand why so many medical errors are made per year. I concluded that medical errors are very common because the doctors are overworked, they have messy handwriting and many more. Doctors are not at fault for this but there are things that can be fixed.

I used many different sites such as different medical sites, articles written by doctors, ABC new and many more. I used many different sites to make sure that the information was correct. I learned that there are many different sources that you can get information from. I learned that medical errors have been a leading cause of death for a while. Medical errors are far too common and happen too often. There are many doctors that have accidentally left tools, sponges etc. In their patients body. I learned that there are many different ways for medical errors to occur. I used Canva to create my infographic and it was very easy to use. I used that you can get information for a variety of places but that you should always double check your information.

Many websites were very detailed and went into a lot of depth when explaining their point. There were some websites that were easy to read while others were more difficult. When wanting to do research on a topic it is very easy to search and get your results. I think technology is very helpful to the world because it can help people understand different topics and the websites are open to everyone. Sites with pictures were more intriguing and easier to understand. Technology can be very useful as long as you know it is true. I was able to get a better understanding and went into depth by searching my topic online.

Information Fluency – Identifying as transgender

You might be wondering why I chose this topic. Well, there isn’t a straightforward response. I chose it because there are a lot of cases where people don’t understand or accept this. There was one shooting in Nashville where the shooting was transgender and wasn’t accepted in their religion. Audrey Hale, the assailant, shot and killed 6 people at an elementary school.

There are many statistics that say the number of identifying as trans has nearly doubled in recent years. They say that students are identifying as trans because of peer pressure and/or because of the influence of social media. There was an article that stated something along the lines ofthere are people being encouraged to identify as transgender among those who are not transgender”. In “Gender Expectations: Trans identity in teens considered as a social contagion.” there is a part of it that states “people are identifying as transgender, but it can be confused with underlying mental health conditions”. Some people that are transgender will experience gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is when they have phycological distress about their gender. 18% of the 375 patients with gender dysphoria were nonbinary. Over half were assigned male at birth but prefer the pronouns they/them. Some articles said that teens are identifying as trans because of the influence from people around them. There were many incidents were males identified themselves as female and participated in competitions. Avi Silverberg identified as a female and participated in the women’s bench press competition. He beat the record by a couple of 100 pounds. The previous person that held the records was a transgender person that had beat and dominated the past 8 competitions that they joined as a woman. This shows that transgender polices harm female athletes. Many people might disagree with me, but I think the people that are identifying as transgender should participate in a different group if they are going to compete in competitions. I am not trying to discriminate but I think it isn’t fair for the females. They could also change the policies.

BREAK THE FAKE- cocaine bear

  1. I found this post on Instagram. I want to see if the story is true. it says that it is based on a true story but I don’t know if I can believe that.
  2. I went to both pubity and memezar and they both blue check marks and a lot of followers which makes them kind of trust worthy.

They both have many different post about different events.

3. But… when I searched on Wikipedia for both of the accounts, there were no results. That doesn’t mean it is fake.

When I searched “cocaine bear” an entire article came up.

4. After searching on snopes.com, I found out that the story is true.

5. After double checking on different websites. I found out that the story about the cocaine bear is true.

Take Your Kids to Work Day

Take your kid to work day (Nov 2nd)

On November 2nd, I went to Inspire dental, a dental clinic. It was very interesting and I learned a lot about dentistry. I followed Dr. Kassam, a dental surgeon around and watched what he did. His child and I went from room to room seeing what he did on a daily basis. It was very interesting because we got to see a surgery. When I wasn’t following him I cleaned the room with an assistant dentist.

HEAR: When I was there I heard a lot of machines, buzzing, cleaning and talking. They had many patients. The machines were very cool. I heard a lot of communication between the different dentists. When they were cleaning the mouths, there was a lot of machines at work and they were loud.

SEE: I saw a lot of blood, teeth, gum, mold, happiness and water. When I was there I looked into a lot of mouths and saw a lot of X-Rays. They were all different and unique in there own way. When I went from room to room all the rooms were very clean and very thing was well organized.

SMELL: I smelled a lot of latex, hand sanitizer and different cleaning tools. When you cleaned things or touched things that were dirty or would go into someone’s mouth, you had to wear gloves. When you took your gloves off or touched anything you have to wash your hands or hand sanitize after.

FEEL: I felt very happy and intrigued with what I was watching. Everyone made me feel very welcomed and I was very happy to be there. It was a very good experience.

The environment would motivate me to wake up and go there every morning because the people are very kind and it is a very good space to be. Everyone there has a very good vibe and they are all very welcoming. It is a fun job and you meet new and kind people everyday.
I don’t think there is really anything that would discourage me to go to work. The environment is amazing. I think the only thing that would discourage me to go to work is waking up early.
If there is another opportunity to go to a work place, I would choose a hospital. I want to see what they do and how they work.
