In the 21st century, the estimated audience for the World Cup surpassed 3 billion people, which makes it one of the most watched broadcasts of all time. Footballs first origins stems from Ancient Japan, Romans and Greeks. The manner of play was way different back then, but the goal was still the same. The sport travelled throughout the Roman Empire including far north up to the British Isles. Football as we know it was born in England, with stories of play dating back to the 12th century.
