About Me

Hi, my name is Lucy Wang from Grade 9 at Dr. Charles Best Secondary.

Favorite Quote:

“To be beautiful means to be yourself, you don’t need to be accepted by others, you need to accept yourself”

This quote shined in front of my eyes, in the most devastated and miserable moment of my life. Imagine being ashamed and fearful of seeing your own body, it’s impossible to avoid, and it’s like a fear haunting you down 86400 seconds a day. However, that’s the case when you are only able to perceive yourself from your outer appearance. Sometimes, you need to look beyond that, to interpret what beautiful truly means. We need to realize that it doesn’t matter what other people think of you, as long as you can maintain an optimistic mind, love the world, your life and be who you are. Self acceptance isn’t easy for everyone, which leads some people to a challenging journey into finding who they are. School is important, family is important, but you will never be happy until you have the ability to accept yourself.

“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.”

Favorite Youtube Video

AsapSCIENCE makes awesome videos “making science make sense”. Science and math was never the subject I enjoyed taking until it became understandable. Science started to become an answer and no longer a school subject. Once you start to solve the puzzle of science, things happening around you became reasonable. It is a way to prove things wrong and what you believe in is right. Science create moments of shocking and mind-blowing realizations of many everyday things we never pay attention to. As a child, I always wondered why we breath? How do we see? Why can’t we eat too much candy? Why do we get sick? Once science starts to make sense, they all do too! AsapSCIENCE, has scientific videos that provides straightforward and fascinating clips for anyone. This clip particular made my chemistry classes 100X easier.

Favorite Book
With a combination of suspense, thrill, and excitement The Maze Runner is by far one of the best book I have ever read. The setting of the story is a maze with many teenage boys who found themselves in an unsolvable maze with memories wiped. Not knowing their identity, family, friends, anything but their name. The novel is mainly about the protagonist, Thomas, digging the truth behind himself and his companions’ existence in the maze. As well as his rise to leadership amongst the group, a direct result of his fiery personality and fearlessness when mapping the maze, and his inevitable escape from it. Even with countless partly mechanical creatures called the Grievers lurking in the maze with deadly venomous stings or other challenges, they “never stopped running”. Thomos demonstrates the importance of trust, courage, resilience, leadership, communication and to never give up. I enjoyed the pace of the book and the detailed descriptions. I doubt that once you start the book you’d be able to put it down. The Maze Runner features the value of partnership, act of selflessness, the importance of independence, survival skills, decision making and braveness. This adventurous, dystopian and science fiction novel by James Dasher is absolutely my favorite book.

Meaningful Picture

https://www.adsoftheworld.com/media/print/moms_demand_action_for_gun_sense_in_america_red_riding_hood

When this picture first came across my eyes, I saw two innocent little girls holding a gun and a book and simply wondered why did U.S school banned ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and not assault weapons? The second it starts to process in my mind the corner of my mouth dropped, my guts clenched, and the mood of my room darkened. Taking a closer look, examining the color scheme, the background, facial expression, race, age, gender and the choice of words. The ad initially ignited my anger and a powerful feeling in me. This ad not only challenge ethics and morals, it also reveals satire and irony to persuade the general public to trigger a movement. Digging into it, I realized how there are so many contributing factors to this rhetorical question, “guess which one”. Guns and assault weapons on school campus is an issue, but there’s no guarantee that changing the law could alter the result of gun deaths in school. This controversial topic has kept me awake for nights and even now there still hasn’t been a conclusion to whether weapons should be banned.

Fun Fact!
My birthday is on March 18 and on the same day in 1123, the “1st Latern Council” opened in Rome (“agreements of the Concordat of Worms ratified”)

Here’s an acrostic poem that I wrote with the first letters of my name. I am not an amazing writer but this is just for fun~

Live everyday to the fullest

Unique, with own dreams

Conquer from within

Yet to uncover the truth

Wish to discover the stars

A chance is waiting by

Nothing is impossible

Go on and accomplish the undoable
