My topic : Candles

Paragraph 1 : The invention of the candle
Candles were first made and invented in ancient China around 200 b.c. They were most commonly created from Whale fat. Then during the Middle Ages, the most commonly known and used candles were tallow. They had become popular all over the world and in the 13th century candle making had become a skill for people in England and France. They were used as one of the ways to display light before electricity. They most commonly used forms are as follows, Candles, oil lamps, torches or a fire.

Paragraph 2 : The definition
Candles are made with an ignitable wick that is held inside of a type of jar with hardened candle wax which melts as the wick burns above it, which can provide a fixture of light or nowadays a relaxing scent.
They were also known for creating heat or during older times, were used as a method of keeping time.
Européen candles were made from different types of wax or oil. Before candles were invented people used oil laps which contain a lit wick with hot oil surrounding it. People began manufacturing candles in the mid 19th century starting in the mid 1830s, with it still going on today. The wicks were them being made from braided strands of cotton. It was said that they were able to make just over 1500 candles in just under a year as this was starting to gain the publics attention.
