How has your awareness of Coast Salish Art in our community changed? Be specific and give at least one example.

I feel my awareness of Coast Salish art in our community has really improved in more ways than one. As I walk around my community I find myself noticing more indigenous art, specifically Coast Salish art. With my new found knowledge of the different shapes used in their art I can more easily pick out which art belongs to the Coast Salish community. I think it is a very special opportunity to have this ability and its always fun to search for more Coast Salish art wherever I go. I’ve noticed a piece of art my aunt has had for years is actually a Coast Salish art piece, yet I am only now able to realize this after learning more about the Coast Salish art style. Overall I am very grateful to have learned about the Coast Salish art and how to recognize it, I feel more aware of my community and identity of being Canadian. I think it is very important for people to learn about others and their differences and educating ourselves about the indigenous culture, especially being Canadian.
