Ryan’s Second Semester Core Competency

Critical thinking has been very helpful to me and my success in Pre-Calculus 12 because I use it to understand complex problems, recognize patterns, and find and use the most efficient strategies for solving equations. Whether I’m working with functions, trigonometric identities, or conics, I have to carefully consider each and every step to avoid errors especially in this class as such a small mistake can cost me. This core competency has helped me approach questions more logically, interpret and understand graphs more accurately, and explain understand solutions with confidence.

Creative thinking played a big role in my experience with Chemistry 11, especially when I had to visualize certain complicated concepts like molecular structures or find/predict the outcomes of chemical reactions. It helped me think past normal memorization and apply my understanding to real-world situations and lab experiments. Whether I was designing an experiment or solving a challenging problem with limited information, creative thinking helped me to explore a multitude of different possibilities and find new ways to connect my knowledge into my everyday work in chemistry.

Assignment 8c: Final Product Submission (Most Common Foul in Basketball)

My project aimed to find the most common foul in the NBA. To do this, I gathered data from two different eras over a 15-year period. Both versions of data (percentages and average per game) showed that personal fouls were the most common. I sourced my data from the website https://www.statista.com/statistics/255080/distribution-of-fouls-called-in-the-nba-regular-season/. Even though it’s a paid service, I was able to access it for free through a friend who is capable of getting accounts for free. The website had a detailed review with statistics to support each one. The study showe me the amount of information available online and changed my perspective of the internet from a social media platform to a infinite amount of knowledge. I learned that technology has helped keep track of data. Technology helps the world by creating easy access to the public for information that would take days to find otherwise.

Information Fluency: Cristiano Ronaldo

As I researched Cristiano Ronaldo, I found an article that had a deep analysis of his achievements and personal life. I learned about his early years in Madeira, Portugal, to his rise to becoming one of the greatest soccer players of all time, and his impressive career with clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Sporting FC, and Juventus. The article also showed his financial side of his career, including his contracts with brands like Nike.

In addition, I read an article that discussed Ronaldo’s downfall with Manchester United that led to his transfer to Al-Nassr. The article provided a different view into the management’s perspective and helped me see both sides of the story.

A question I had was who is the greatest player of all time? Even though I am the biggest Ronaldo fan in the world, I accept that Messi is the greatest player of all time, but I still believe that Ronaldo has many arguments due to his Champions League domination and his ability to dominate in different leagues.

Another question I had was, what was his greatest performance ever which I found through the article talking about his hat-trick against Spain and his multiple hat-tricks  in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

When I was younger Ronaldo influenced me in a way where I fell in love with soccer. His talents and accomplishments especially at Real Madrid made me love soccer from a very young age.

In conclusion, the article provided a new perspective on one of the greatest players of all time, making it an interesting and cool read.

Break The Fake Part II – Kobe jumping over speeding car

  1.  I was thinking about videos that I’ve seen before and I remember a infamous video of Kobe Bryant jumping over a speeding car for a commercial shoot. There was lot’s of speculation of whether or not this was real so I decided that I would fact check it.

2. First thing I did was check snopes.com, I couldn’t really find anything.

3. So next I searched the topic with fake/hoax on google, multiple different sources said it wasn’t real so next I’m going to verify the sources.

4. Just in case I wanted to use the custom link that was made just for fact checking. Even on there I couldn’t find any information so those sources are our only leadway.

5. So right away I went to verify the source using Wikepedia, I have heard of Bleacher Report before but just to make sure I went to check. Firstly, it was launched in 2005 which is a little suspicious but it’s linked with lot’s of money and I checked their social medias where they had a blue check mark. They are  linked with two other companies named House Of Highlights and TBS which also both had wikepedias and a blue check mark. This means they are who they say they are.

6. Early when the company was made they had made a fatal mistake of letting anyone upload on their website which now they say was a horrible mistake. This shows that they have a good history of realising their mistakes and coming out and accepting them.

7. In conclusion I can confidently say that the video of Kobe Bryant jumping over a speeding car is FAKE.

My experience at my parents pharmacy!

On November 2nd, I went to visit my parents pharmacy, and helped around. Even though I’ve been there a lot this time it was a lot more special because I’m a lot older than I was before and was able to do different tasks in the pharmacy.

1.What about the environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

I think that something that would really discourage me from going to work everyday is definitely the fact that I have to wake up, early to get ready to go, I can barely get up in the morning to go to school and I feel like it would such a pain to wake up early and come back home late. I also think that you don’t really get a lot of time for yourself. for example you can’t really have hobbies if you’re working as late as my parents.

2.What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

Something that would really motivate me to wake up every day is definitely the money I would get from working , how I felt accomplished when I was organzing the medication and punching it all into the computer and how owning a pharmacy is just helping people in need. Just from that I know that I would want to wake up everyday to make money and just help others people who need their medication.

Rules for commenting on my blog!

Thank you guys so much for coming to look at my new blog, I just wanted to put some rules in place so we don’t go too far on opinions!

Say something meaningful. What you write should add to the conversation. A comment should offer encouragement, make a connection, ask a question, offer advice, or state an opinion.

  • I think that if your comment isn’t showing someone an opinion or is a random imprecise, there is no need to comment.

Write comments that reflect you in a positive way. Your comments tell people about who you are. For example, if you write something encouraging, people will think you are kind or if you offer some advice, people will think you are helpful. But if you write something mean, insulting, or hateful, people will think you are a bully or rude.

  • I believe that your comment should hold something of value it should show others that you care about their opinion, if your comment is clashing with someone else’s be respectful of their opinion and show it in another way

Be clear. Write exactly what you mean. In a face-to-face conversation tone of voice, facial expressions, hand gestures, and body stance help convey meaning. When you comment visual cues are not available. For this reason, make sure readers understand your message.

  • If your comment dosen’t make sense there is no need to write it, reread and get another point of view to make sure that your not just babbling.

Assume everyone can read your comment. You might think your comment is private and it can only be read by your friends or the people in your school. However, since your comments are digital they can be copied and shared with others, without your permission. For this reason, never write anything that you do not want to be public.

  • Make sure that even if your being kind to the person you’re talking to that it shows kindness to people that are even just reading for fun or bystanders.
