1. Connecting Core Competencies

For this section I chose “critical thinking” because during the entirety of this project, I often found myself analyzing and trying to develop my project to the best of my abilities. For example, the images and the font sizes. I was told by a peer that my font looked a bit “off” so I re-looked at the font and found a better font. Thanks to that person’s constructive criticism, I now have a better aesthetically pleasant project.

2. Learning from Digital Tools

While working on this project, I learned that creating a poster wasn’t so difficult at all, I just needed to take the time and reflect. I learned how to fit/adjust the text and fonts to make the most of out the white space I was given. There was tons of benefits of using Canvas. It was simple, easy to navigate (extremely important for beginners) and had an immense amount of creative functions, such as the built in web searcher to find images. There was only one disadvantage of using Canvas and it is how it doesn’t know how to pick up French words. Which is why I decided to write all my work in a separate word doc to ensure that I have all my errors fixed and of course the French accents (ex: é, à, etc.)

3. Application in Other Courses

The first course that popped up in my mind when thinking about Canvas was Marketing. Next term I’ve got Marketing and with my newfound knowledge of Canvas and its abilities, I am extremely confident that I would be able to create a great poster, if presented the opportunity. You can use Canvas for any other classes as well, as the functions are not limited by your subject. Canvas can be used similarly to PowerPoint, there’s a function to make a presentation and I think that Canvas is a great alternative if you don’t want to use PowerPoint but still want great results.
