The NHL has an initiative called “Hockey Is for Everyone.” I have played and enjoyed hockey for most of my life. I’ve been playing hockey since I was 4 years old and most people I talk with enjoy watching hockey even if they have never stepped on the ice before. I agree with this statement, and I think that if everyone takes a chance to watch hockey, they will enjoy it. I think that hockey is a world sport played in most countries and I think that hockey brings us all closer together. I think that hockey is one of the most entertaining sports that you could watch as it is fast-paced and exciting. An example of how intense and entertaining this sport is is during the IIFH here’s an example, “The Czech Republic upsets Finland, 4-3 in a shoot out to advance to the semis. Kristian Reichel of the Czech Republic beats Finnish goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in the overtime shootout. The Czechs won, 4-3, to advance.” This is an example of how hockey can brings us all closer together. This was during a world hockey event called the IIHF or the world juniors. This is an event that happens all year around with the national team competing for a spot in the tournament. Most countries have a national team, and it is popular in most countries. There are men’s teams and women’s teams, this shows how inclusive and competitive these events are. This is a big deal all around the world and I know lots of people that watch this tournament even if they don’t play hockey. This event is much like the Olympics or the FIFA world cup but it is for hockey of course with teams competing to qualifying to get a spot in the tournament. I love watching this event and I love the intensity and supporting my country and it would be my dream to one day compete in one of these events.
