Today, for Take Your Kid to Work Day, I stayed home with my dad, who is a Chief Marketing Officer. I spent the day learning about his job, watching him work on presentations and marketing strategies, and even joining him for a few virtual meetings. It was interesting to see how he communicates with his team and plans creative campaigns. We worked side by side at his home office, and he explained what he does in simple terms, making it a fun experience.

On November 6th, “Take Your Kid to Work Day” at home brought a lively change to the school routine. Alongside the familiar sounds of typing and computer hums. The setup was also different, with notebooks and a coffee cup joined by homework assignments. The comforting smells of coffee, a candle, or breakfast filled the room, making the space feel cozy. Sharing the workday with my dad brought a sense of pride and joy, adding warmth and energy to the environment and blending personal and professional worlds in a fun way.
- What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? Why?
From a ninth-grader’s perspective, the idea of a comfortable home work environment could be pretty motivating. Knowing that I could be in a relaxed, familiar space each day, with things that make me feel at ease like comfy clothes, my favorite snacks, and maybe some music playing softly in the background would make waking up for work feel a lot easier. There’s also the appeal of flexibility; not having to rush out the door means less stress, and I can focus better when I’m in a space I feel comfortable in. Plus, it feels kind of cool to get a taste of what work life is like without the strictness of a classroom, and that mix of responsibility and freedom would make me look forward to each day.
- What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work? Why?
at home could feel discouraging if it starts to get boring or if it feels too quiet and isolated. Without classmates or friends around, it might feel lonely, making it hard to stay motivated. Also, being in the same place every day, especially if it’s just a desk or a small area, could make the days feel repetitive. It might be tempting to get distracted by things like my phone, video games, or even the urge to go back to bed, which could make focusing on work feel like a struggle.
- What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit? Why?
One interesting thing about my workplace visit was seeing how my dad organizes their tasks and manages their time. It was cool to watch them use different tools like calendars, sticky notes, and online apps to keep everything on track. I didn’t realize how much planning goes into each day, and it made me see how they balance a lot of responsibilities without getting too stressed. It was inspiring because it gave me ideas for organizing my own schoolwork and showed me how important good time management can be.
