Core Competencies Po Yiu

Communication – In P.E., I played ringette, which was an excellent example of communication because you need to know where your teammates are. The P.E. course encouraged you to open up and talk more to others because you have to work and play with everyone in your class. I will focus on developing my Communication competency by taking the initiative to talk to others, even if I do not know them well.

Creative Thinking – In English 10, I learned how to write an essay, pushing me to think from another perspective and refine my ideas. I’ve grown the most in my Creative Thinking competency because, in my English 10 and Science Humaines 10 class, you must prolong your ideas using meaningful and big words. I can develop my Creative Thinking competency by reading more books and listening to podcasts.

Critical ThinkingIn English 10, there was an activity called literature circle where you would have to respond to quotes right off your head. This activity was an excellent example of critical thinking because I demonstrated that I can quickly analyze something and further expand it to other ideas. I can focus on developing my Critical Thinking competency by reading mystery books and watching videos about mysteries.

Social Responsibility – In P.E., I did a run where I was paired with 2 other people to run around the lake in Mundy Park. It was torturous, but this activity helped me be more encouraging to my teammates and my friends because we all had to endure the same pain of running. I can develop my social responsibility by looking on the bright side of things and thinking before I speak.

Personal and Cultural Identity – In English 10, I did a novel study on the damage that residential schools inflicted on Indigenous kids. This activity helped me realize how much help I have received from my family and friends to get to where I am today in life. I can develop my personal and cultural identity competency by acknowledging my life circumstances and being grateful for what I have.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility – In Science 10,  I learned about safety hazards, which can be really useful in real life. This activity was an excellent example of personal awareness and responsibility because I demonstrated that I have common knowledge, and I can get to safety when in danger. I can develop my personal awareness and responsibility competency by learning more things that can help me survive and things that can make me happy.

Core Competencies – Po Yiu Yau

In Math 9, I was the group leader for helping others to understand their mistakes on a test. This is a great example of communication because I helped others understand what they did not. We had people with weak bases from our group write solutions to hard questions to prove they understood. I demonstrated alternative ways that people can solve problems, which proves that I can communicate my ideas with others, even if we have different perspectives on problems. In Info Tech 9, I did a PowerPoint presentation, which was an excellent example of creative thinking because the objective wasn’t to make just an ordinary presentation, it was one that you needed to engage people. You needed to find ways to make your PowerPoint look interesting while using different functions. During my presentation, I demonstrated that I could turn my imagination and ideas into reality since I had transitions that were very smooth and realistic. In Info Tech 9, I did a Scratch coding project demonstrating critical thinking. During the coding process, I needed to think logically about why errors were occurring. There were many different types of errors, which needed me to question, analyze, and apply basic knowledge on large chunks of code at a time. In Social Responsibility, I did research on an inquiry question about sports that demonstrated social responsibility. I wrote and researched about the benefits of playing a sport, which caught the attention of my peers. In Applications of Digital Learning, I did an “About Me” assignment, which demonstrated personal identity. I could proudly tell people what I liked and disliked, and what my personality is. In Science 9, I did a Bunsen burner project where it was in partners, which was an excellent example of personal responsibility because it was a bit dangerous, handling fire and different raw materials. I was a reliable partner as I grabbed the right materials, ensured the fire was not causing danger, and the testing process was correct.

Final Assignment Coast Salish Art: Part 2

Thinking about creating this piece of digital art and the Edublog posts, how have your digital knowledge and skills improved this year? Be specific and give at least one example.

While creating this piece of digital art, I learned how to alter shapes to different variations. Throughout this year, my digital awareness improved as many assignments require the knowledge of checking the validity of websites. One example is the Break the Fake assignment where I had to go to fact-checking websites and where photos orginated from. In my opinion, that assignment was really essential as many things online are fake. Overall this class was useful and will help me with my future use of the internet.

Information Fluency Paragraph

My Paragraph

Having exercise daily gives you many benefits mentally and physically. Starting with physical benefits, people who exercise daily have a lengthened life and increased physical health. For people who sit for hours, doing as little as 20 minutes of exercise can nearly offset those long periods without movement. While exercising can be harsh, its results make you happy and feel rewarded. Not only does it decrease your chances of diseases, but it elevates balance and coordination and lowers levels of stress and anxiety.

AI-Generated Paragraph

Regular exercise offers a multitude of benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Firstly, it strengthens muscles, improves cardiovascular health, and boosts overall physical fitness, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Secondly, exercise releases endorphins, which act as natural mood lifters, reducing stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Thirdly, it enhances cognitive function, improving memory, focus, and mental clarity. Additionally, exercise promotes better sleep quality and energy levels, leading to increased productivity and vitality throughout the day. Overall, incorporating exercise into one’s routine not only improves physical health but also enhances mental resilience, providing a holistic approach to overall well-being.

My experience using AI has been great. I use it to find information and provide me with ideas when I cannot think of any. It also opens me up to new words that I do not commonly see and use.

The paragraph the AI generated is accurate. It said that exercise can help many problems, and that is true as those problems are mentioned in many articles written on exercise.

The exercise was useful as I saw that it brought out many key compenents that I could write about. It also shows me that what AI writes doesn’t really have the same feeling as a paragraph written by a person. Going forward, AI can continue to help create ideas and find information with many topics.

Those results were expected as AI can find information on the web very quickly and provide great details.

Break the Fake Pt. 2 – Viral Video of Drake’s Tomb in Toronto

https://www.tiktok.com/@denodagod/video/7322896327598230814

This is a video on Tiktok showing people on TV building a tomb for Drake in Toronto, with its supervisor, Graeme Barnett, talking about it.

As many people are talking about the tomb of Drake, one thing that is always shown is the supervisor, Graeme Barnett. There was no Wikipedia page on this man, but there were other websites that gave me information about him. Most of them said he was a comedian and would make parody and POV videos on Tiktok.

I also used Snopes to find the sources of the tomb, but instead, I found a hoax that was made in 2020 stating that he is well alive.

Lastly, I did some searching on Google to see articles on this topic. It mostly said it was fake as it was the comedian’s hoax.

In conclusion, this topic is fake.

TOKTWD – Po Yiu Yau

On TOKTWD, I went to my mom’s home office and my dad’s warehouse, where my mom’s other workspace is located. I went into my mom’s home office by myself and went to my dad’s warehouse with both of my parents as it’s in New Westminster.

When I was in my mom’s home office, I helped her organize documents and sort out checks. I also helped clean her office. As you can see on the shelf, I read a few books when my mom didn’t need my help.

When I was in my dad’s warehouse, I had to really help clean out the area as it was a bit messy, and I helped refill paper and ink for the printer machine. There are also checks in the warehouse, so I help sort them out and put them into the binders which are next to the stacks of paper.

Take Our Kids to Work Day. (Be sure to ask permission to take and share photos on your edublog) Answer ALL of the following questions on this word document:

*My mom works in two places, my dad’s warehouse and at her at home office*

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?

In my dad’s warehouse, I heard machines clacking as my dad fixes and builds his things, I smelled a bit of chemicals coming from downstairs because of the detergent that my dad works with, and I felt a bit cold, as there was not any heater in the warehouse.

In my mom’s office, it was quiet, and there was not much sound, so it is a wonderful place to work in. There was no smell, as the kitchen was on the opposite side of the house. It felt cold in the room though, so it has the same feeling as in the warehouse.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

For my dad’s warehouse, something that would motivate me to wake up is to be able to clear all the documents on the 2nd floor, and to make sure everything goes well.

For my mom’s office, like in my dad’s warehouse, to clear all documents and sorts of work so I would not have to work for some days, and to keep the room clean.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

For my dad’s warehouse, something that would discourage me is where the warehouse is located. Yes, we have a car, but it is still in New Westminster, close to Richmond, so taking buses and trains would take a long time to get to the warehouse. There are also many stairs that lead up to the 2nd floor, and I would not want to wake that many stairs every single morning to get to work.

For my mom’s office, something that would discourage me is the fact that I would have to get up and work, and I would not be able to work in my bed or multitask even though I am in my own house. Another thing is I could procrastinate easily since I would be able to convince myself to take a break from working by eating or doing something else in the else, so I would be easily distracted.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

For my dad’s warehouse, one thing I found interesting was the paper and stuff on the shelves (I will show in pictures) were important in what my mom does.

For my mom’s office, one thing I found interesting was how peaceful the office really was, as I usually never go in there.
