Core Competencies

Communication

In physical health education, I had to get into a group and put together a presentation using figures and gymnastics skills. This was an excellent example of communication because I demonstrated that I can connect and engage with others by interacting with my peers to reach a shared goal. I wasn’t afraid to share my ideas or add on to others, which proves that I can communicate while feeling confident at the same time.

Critical Thinking

I have grown the most in my critical thinking competency because I can question and investigate by using my experience, observations and imagination to arrive at a conclusion, which I find easier to do now than before. I can apply this skill to any subject once I have learned enough of the material. For example, when I am taking a test in social studies and am unsure on the answer to a question, I refer back to what I already know, making observations in my head, to arrive at an answer that I believe is right.

Core Competencies

Strength

One of my strengths is responsibility. I can stay on top of all my assignments and study for tests most of the time. If I miss a test, I schedule a date with my teacher and plan my time.

Growth

Creative thinking is where I grew the most this year. At the beginning of the year in science class I was not good at understanding what my class was learning. I then took responsibility for what I did not understand and reviewed my notes and pretended to teach someone the material that I learned. I developed a new idea of how I learn. This helped me get a better understanding of what I learn in class.

Example of my growth

I have been able to use this strategy in all my classes. It has really shown me you just have to change the way you look at something and it can make a whole lot more sense. For example, in math class there were a few things I did not fully understand in a unit. I used my newly learned strategy, and I was able to do well on my test.

Goal/Plan

My goal is to be able to be able to communicate better. In class I have a tough time contributing to group discussions. I want to be able to ask, answer questions and share ideas while I am in a group for a project in class. To achieve this goal, I will start with only one of the three things (ask, answer, and share) and work my way up until I can do them all easily.

Coast Salish Art

Thinking about creating this piece of digital art and the Edublog posts, how have your digital knowledge and skills improved this year? Be specific and give at least one example.

This year I learned many new things that increased my knowledge and skills in Digital Learning. There were a variety of different kinds of assignments, but the final one, which was about taken a drawing of Coast Salish Art and changing it into a digital image, which was the one that I enjoyed the most. To do the assignment I learned how to use a program called Inkscape which allowed me to edit the shapes I would put on my animal. This assignment gave me a basic example on how to use a digital editing app. I also learned that there are different file types such as jpg and svg and how to change a file into a different format. Therefore, this assignment alone was able to teach me a few things about Coast Salish Art and a bit on using an editing app.

My Paragraph VS The AI Paragraph (Biking)

My Paragraph:

Biking is one of the easiest and most exciting ways to get exercise. Bicycles come in a wide range of sizes, styles, and can be used almost anywhere by anyone. Almost any bike can make the steep climbs and go any distance. What makes bikes really good for riding is they can go places that cars cant go. Bikes have been an excellent method of transportation for decades and will continue to be for decade to come.

AI Prargraph:

Biking embodies the perfect blend of adventure, exercise, and environmental consciousness. As riders embark on their journeys, they’re not just traversing landscapes; they’re immersing themselves in a vibrant tapestry of experiences. The rhythmic motion of pedaling becomes a meditative rhythm, connecting them intimately with their surroundings. From the serene paths of parks to the challenging trails of mountains, biking offers a versatile canvas for exploration and self-discovery. Ultimately, biking isn’t just a means of transportation; it’s a lifestyle that promotes health, sustainability, and a profound appreciation for the world around us.

  1. It was quick and easy, but felt weird because there was very little effort put into it.
  2. It’s very accurate because everything it said was true.
  3. Yes, it shows me how to structure a paragraph better.
  4. Yes, I expected a very well put together paragraph.

Disneyland Slot Machines

  1. I was looking on X (Twitter) and came across this tweet. I didn’t think it was real because Disneyland is a family theme park and gambling is an adult activity.

2. I went to the source “Mouse Trap News” and saw they didn’t have a blue check mark, which means they are not a verified user.

3. I did some research on the site and found out they write fake stories about Disneyland for amusement.

4. Lastly, I went onto Disney’s offical site and did a search for Slot Machines/Casinos. I ended up getting no results comfirming that           this tweet is fake.

Take your kid to work day

For take your kid to work day, I went to the Vancouver Police Department with my dad, and I was able to bring a friend. The VPD has an annual program for this day, and we didn’t spend the day with our parents. All the kids were dropped off at the gun range for an introduction about what we were going to do for the day, and we met the Chief.

My group started with a presentation on cyber safety and then we got to use the Emergency Response Team’s equipment, including drones and night vision goggles. Afterwards, we learned about firearms and got to shoot handguns at the range. Next, we learned about traffic enforcement, forensics, and we saw the police horses. The best part of the day was a demonstration with the police dogs. Their handlers shared some interesting stories with us and then we ended the day learning about drugs.

TOKTWD 2023

Take Our Kids to Work Day. (Be sure to ask permission to take and share photos on your edublog) Answer ALL of the following questions on this word document:

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?

At the work place I heard gun shots, I saw illegal drugs, I smelt gun powder, and felt police horses.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

Something about the workplace that would motivate me to go to work is the nice people that work there. Even though this is something in every workplace I believe it is important for mental health.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

I don’t like the sound of the guns being fired in the shooting range because it’s loud.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

I like the fact that there are several different kinds of jobs and specialty units and the police department.
