Coast Salish Art

Thinking: The Coast Salish Art has been seen more regularly in many communities through paintings, murals, statues, art work around schools and work places but my awareness came from my middle school principal who changed the way our school respected and looked at Coast Salish Art. She was apart of that community and wanted to shed light onto how beautiful and how meaningful Coast Salish Art is. She held events and video chats where we would celebrate and see what Coast Salish Art is about and every meaning behind it. It opened my eyes to what it really means and how everything has a purpose. She now has many Coast Salish Art pieces around the school and art has continued to grow throughout the school.

Info Fluency Paragraph- Mental Health in sports

Mental Health in Sports How it Affects Young Athletes to Professionals

My topic of choice is a segment on Mental Health. I have chosen this because I believe people don’t see how kids/teens in sports don’t get the support that older athletes do.

“Mental health and emotional well-being of professional athletes, particularly those who are stigmatized in the sports industry and in society for seeking professional help or taking a break to improve their mental health.” My connection to this statement is I have struggled with mental health to the point where I needed a break from my sport and had to isolate myself in single training. The only difference between me and a professional athlete is that my toxic environment was others around me not hate online.

Yes, professionals get it from the press and reporters but it’s most likely that their team culture is balanced and less problematic. Teens are known to be repulsive around people they even slightly don’t like, some chose to ignore, and others decide to bully or tease that individual. When adults properly handle the situation and most likely it ends in a positive result, or so most hope. If an adult seems to notice they have some struggles with Mental Health and can’t preform at their highest level, everyone seems to pay attention to that player and they contribute everything they can to that player, when it comes to kids, they can lean on their parents and maybe one or two friends but they are less likely to get support that sometimes they desperately need.

You see a large increase in suicide cases in children in sports then you do professional athletes. That is because when an adult needs help they instantly receive it, their mental health relies on their job and when these men and women are making thousands and millions of dollars each year, and these kids are playing for fun, some with a passion and paying thousands to play you would think well one hundred percent these adults are going to get the attention. You’re one hundred percent correct.

Unfortunately this is the sad truth of our reality. Kids should feel like they have support as well. The many different kids in this world who are struggling in sports with mental health should be treated like the top players of many different sports are treated. Every life is precious, adults need too give younger individuals more resources to reach out.

AI Paragraph

Mental health struggles within sports are pervasive, impacting athletes of all ages and levels, from young amateurs to seasoned professionals. While professional athletes often have access to robust mental health support systems, including therapists, counselors, and team psychologists, young athletes frequently lack similar resources. The intense pressure to perform, coupled with the scrutiny of coaches, peers, and parents, can create a breeding ground for anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges among young athletes. Yet, the stigma surrounding mental health in sports often leads to silence and reluctance to seek help. This lack of support can have profound consequences on the well-being and performance of young athletes, highlighting the critical need for increased awareness and resources to address mental health within the sporting community at all levels.

Questions:

  1. My experience using AI for the first time was surprising how accurate and beautiful the paragraph was structured. Mine took a bit more of writing and depth to it, but AI got as much depth as me but in a shorter paragraph. I like how AI structures their writing.
  2. I believe yes, the paragraph was spot on. The topic was well presented and worded along with facts that are true. I did not need to fact check these because I have talked to my God Cousin Brad Hunt about mental health as a professional athlete. He is a NHL defenseman. He knows first hand about this content. I have seen the kids side of this content as well. I can fact check this myself.
  3. This experience was useful, I will pay more attention to my cites and use the links provided to me that are shown and needed in this project. It is neat that there are so many websites that you can gain information from. I will use this to my advantage.
  4. Yes, my results were expected. I did some searching on the topic more than needed and I started the project already knowing that kids don’t have enough support in they’re sporting communities.
