Break the fake – Viral photo of a so-called ‘shell shocked’ soldier during World War 1

I was scrolling through twitter when I saw a post that caught my attention, I saw that it was a picture of The First World War or WW1

Picture:

I found this picture very interesting and so did the 1,6 million people (about the population of New York) who saw this post as well. But I was not sure if this image was real, so I decided to fact check the picture, here are the steps I took to fact check it.

Step 1: I went to the source ‘Historic Vids’ and saw that it had a blue checkmark which means this account is who they say they are so this post is most likely real, But I Decided to dig deeper.

Step 2: I went onto tineye.com to reverse image search the image and found out that the image was real but the information about the photo was wrong, the image shows that the soldier on the left is not suffering from shell shock. He is actually happy and smiling that he survived a bullet to the neck. (As you can see in the photo bandages were applied on the neck)

Step 3: I decided to go on other various trustworthy site to verify this new information and found out that it was a very famous photo and there was a common misconception about the man because of his eerie smile so many people believed that he was suffering from shell shock. In conclusion the image was real, but the information was fake
