I demonstrated communication skills this year while assisting to set up and carry out school events as a stage manager this year.
In my continuation in the role of stage manager at Charles Best, I have continued to be a part of schoolwide assemblies, music concerts and dance setups.
In collaboration with leadership students, student council members and organizing staff members, I have worked to communicate the needs of the stagecraft and tech department to run events smoothly. I connected and engaged with guest speakers, organizers, MCs, volunteers and crew to assist where I can.
In collaboration with the music department and Mr. Hughes, I have learnt to efficiently setup for band concerts. I have learnt through practice and observation how, where and when different parts of setup happen. I have acquired, interpreted and presented the information to new generations of sound technicians.
Winter ball setup was our most recent event that required the help of stagecraft to setup. During setup, I collaborated with my crew and Mr. Case to safely set up the equipment and decorations. I acted as a communicator between the volunteers and my crew to ensure that all equipment was handled safely and properly. Additionally, I collaborated to come up with plans and solutions regarding disco ball setup.
In reflection, with my crew and other organizing members, we have reflected on our work and been able to work to improve the experience and outcome together.
One example is when the sound system in the large gym fried prior to the Halloween pep rally. For the following Remembrance Day assembly, we brought our own tried and tested band sound system.
In the future, I will be continuing to develop my core competencies through my actions, choices and lessons I learn.
