Hello!
Like all public spaces, both online and offline, I have a list of boundaries and things that make me feel uncomfortable. As this list is different for everyone, I will be listing things I am comfortable and uncomfortable with down below. These things apply at all times, both on and off my blog.
-Foul language-
The first and probably the most obvious- please do not use any sort of foul/inappropriate language on my blog. This list includes: cuss words or swears, slurs, name-calling, etc. Pretty much anything you wouldn’t say to your grandparents’ faces, you shouldn’t be saying here either.
-Criticism-
I am totally ok with constructive criticism! I am always looking for ways to improve. I only start to have a problem when people are nasty about it.
As an example:
“Hi! I think this looks great, but I think you could improve on ___.”
This is totally ok! If you are nice about it and are genuinely trying to help, it is greatly appreciated that you provide suggestions.
However,
“Wow, ___, ___, and ___ all suck. It’s full of mistakes, and this post looks like it’s been run over by a lawnmower.”
This is… not welcomed. Please avoid anything that could be read as insulting or hurtful.
-Tone tags, etc.-
Related to the last rule- tone. Please remember that since you are writing this on a screen, I cannot hear your tone of voice! You may be trying to be polite, but I might misinterpret it as you being rude.
A really handy tool for this is tone tags! Many people don’t know what these are, but they can actually be really helpful. You use them at the end of a sentence to indicate how you would be saying them if you were talking in real life.
These are not required, they are just a suggestion!
Some examples include:
/srs: Serious
/gen: Genuine
/j: Joking
/nm: Not mad
/pc or /pos: Positive connotation
How to use them:
“Are you ok? /gen” and “Are you ok? /j” have totally different meanings, one is genuine and one is a joke.
I don’t require that you use tone tags, but if you’re worried that your comment might come off as rude, you can use one of these!
-NON NEGOTIABLE-
I do not and never will stand for any sort of discrimination. People’s human rights are never, ever up for debate, no matter the circumstance. Stereotyping, slurs, bullying, etc, are not acceptable in any way, shape, or form. I never want to see them anywhere on my blog.
Following all of these rules, an appropriate comment could look something like;
“Hi! This is interesting, and I learned something new from it! Maybe you could use more diverse vocabulary since I saw that you used some of the same words. Thank you!”
Thank you for taking the time to read my boundaries, and I hope to see you again soon!
