In my science class, I demonstrated my critical thinking skills during our heart rate lab. We had to count our BPM before and after exercise (multiple times each) and track it on a sheet where we would then calculate the average increase in heart rate. After using a cuff to count our resting heart rate, my friend and I did jumping jacks for 30 seconds to try and raise it before our second trial. Unfortunately, we are too athletic and strong and jumping jacks had no effect on our heart rate somehow (the cuff was broken.) We decided to go for a run outside in the rain instead. (I am going to skip over the part where I did a nosedive into the concrete and had to get an X-ray on my wrist, all because I was running in boots, which demonstrates a lack of critical thinking.) Anyways, by using our excellent problem-solving skills, we determined that sprinting back and forth for five minutes would raise our heart rate more than a slow round of jumping jacks. In the end, we were correct, and our heart rate lab turned out great.
