Skills: 

This year in English 10, I have been able to demonstrate critical thinking, through analyzing texts and writing. An example of this is in our short story unit where we were tasked to analyze the text and write a paragraph about the theme. During this unit I was able to use my critical thinking skills to find the true meaning of the text, while explaining it through my paragraph. 

Growth: 

Throughout this year I have improved my creative thinking skills through Art studio 11. I have been able to think creatively on projects and develop new ideas to meet the criteria. I have also learned how to think outside of the box on the given assignment. 

Goals: 

Some of the goals I have this year are to work on my communication. I want to be able to talk more in my classes, by making sure I’m sharing ideas in classroom discussion. By doing this it will allow me to be more involved in classroom discussion as well as asking questions throughout the course.

Strengths: Personal Awareness and Responsibility 

This year I have demonstrated personal awareness and responsibility. One of the examples of this is staying on top of my schoolwork (for example getting ahead and doing extra work). Another example of this is I also always try my best and put my best ability into my work.  

Growth: Personal Awareness and Responsibility 

This year I have improved on my organization, with this I’m able to stay on top of my homework. Being more organized has helped me get my work done and know what needs to be done. I can also organize my work better, for example, when writing an essay, making sure it’s organized and easy to follow.  

Goal: Communication 

One of my goals is communication to achieve my goal; I want to be more involved in clubs, school activities and speaking up.  I find I can be very quiet when I don’t know anyone. I want to be able to speak up more to my classmates and share my ideas. I also want to join some school clubs so I can be more involved in my school community. Lastly, I want to be more involved in school activities, for example being part of leadership. This will allow me to help my school community and being involved as well.

Question: Thinking about creating this piece of digital art and the Edu blog posts, how have your digital knowledge and skills improved this year? Be specific and give at least one example?

Throughout this year I have learned many new skills. For example I have learned how to be more aware about news and not always believing the first thing I read. With these new skills I can now determine what to believe and what not to. Another thing I have learned is how create Coast Salish Art, and learn the deeper meaning behind the shapes and symbols. Lastly, I have learned how to use a app called Inkscape to create digital art.

My Paragraph:

Green house gasses play a huge role in our earth’s atmosphere, which can lead to a lasting impact on our planet, as well as negative affects to our health. Green house gasses are gases that increase temperature in our earth atmosphere in order to regulate it. With more human activity like fossil fuels, and industrialization it has increased the levels of carbon dioxide in our earths atmosphere. This causes an energy imbalance which leads to extra heat near the surface causing the atmosphere to heat up. These levels has been increasing through the past decades and is only getting worse. This affects our planet and there have been increasing amounts of heatwaves, weather events, diseases spread and more. Greenhouse gas not only have an affect on our planet but our health, we need to take action before it becomes a crisis.

I fact check the information from the AI generated paragraph and it was true. I found the AI generated paragraph was more complicated and could use a bit more explaining.
3)  Was the exercise useful? How can this help you with your learning going forward? Were your results expected? Yes or No? Explain.
I think this was very useful, because I never knew to use AI before. I think this could be useful if you are trying to learn something and need a quick summery of the topic. It would also, save you time because you don’t have to look through the internet. The downside is your don’t know if the information is correct. Overall I think AI could be used in a helpful way by explain or collecting information, but not being used to do the work for you.

Break The Fake Part 2/ Does The Pyjama Bird Exist?

I came across a image posted by The Wildlife on Facebook. They claimed they saw this unique bird which appeared to be wearing Pajamas. So did some investigation to figure out if this was real or fake, and I found this.

1) “Pyjama bird” posted by The Wildlife on Facebook

2) As I was investigating the photo further, I got a message on the image saying altered image, independent fact-checkers say this information could mislead people. This was a huge red flag.

3) Then I looked at The Wildlife Facebook and found out they post bird photos, and one of the examples of this is. The overall photo is off and they post several misleading images that are most likely AI generated.

4) I then looked though Google and found many news articles debunking the image and stating that its fake.

5) I then went on to Snopes.com to get more information on this. It said that this is AI generated and Rated it “Fake”.

5) I have determined that this image is Fake, because of the user’s posting history, warnings on Facebook, and articles this stating its fake.

 

Take Your Kid To Work Day

For take your Kid To Work Day, I went to my Dad’s work. He is works for the VDP, so they had organized a day for kids to do activities. This was a very unique  experience and I will also remember it.

 

  1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st? 

We got the opportunity to shoot guns, do I heard the banging of the guns.  At lunch we were able to eat pizza and I could smell the scent of it. I saw police officers, animals, and various gear. I could also feel the police gear, and how the material felt.  

 

 

 

  1. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? 

How friendly the people were and how polite they were. I would also look forward to helping my community. I would also be motivated to see some of my co-workers, and that I would work with. 

 

  1. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work? 

That fact that you would have to deal with crazy people, that would attack you. And I would not like to respond to violence. And how you may have to work nightshifts and wake up early. 

  1. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

I found it interesting how the police train the dogs, and how they are used to detect bombs, detect people’s scent, and save people’s lives.
