Below are my refelctions on the development of my core competencies over this semester.
Communication
I can confidently interact and build relationships with other group members to further shared goals.
In Food Studies 12 we operate in a group setting for every lab which helped me build confidence when interacting and building relationships with other group members. When doing labs, I learned that it is important to establish effective communication so that everyone stays safe, and we can finish within the class time. In addition, during French 12 we had many group discussions which further allowed me to interact with my classmates and share ideas so that our in class essays writes are easier for everyone.
Creative Thinking
I can get new ideas or reinterpret others’ ideas in novel ways.
I can think “outside the box” to get innovative ideas and persevere to develop them.
I’ve grown the most in my Creative Thinking competency through Food Studies as well. In particular, when we were tasked with coming up with our own labs it forced me to innovate on existing recipes to adapt to the ingredients we have at school.
Critical Thinking
I can ask questions and consider options. I can use my observations, experience, and imagination to draw conclusions and make judgements.
This semester in Chemistry 12 I developped my Critical Thinking competency as I used my observations from labs to draw conclusions on how they connect with the theories we learned in class. Moreover, I asks questions when I don’t quite understand I always make sure to bring it up to the teacher or ask a peer for an alternative perspective on the problem.
Personal Awareness and Responsibility
I can initiate actions that bring me joy and satisfaction and recognize that I play a role in my well-being.
I can identify my strengths and limits, find internal motivation, and act on opportunities for self-growth. I can take responsibility for making ethical decisions.
Whenever I have been stressed over the workload from school this semester, I made sure to take time for myself so that I do not feel burned out. Also, I started studying with my friends and seeing them work hard motivated me to do the same. Finally, for English class in particular I found myself imporving my skills simply because I enjoyed the course and not soley for the grades.
