Core competencies

A strength for me is my communication skills, and ability to stay on top of my work. I feel comfortable asking questions when I need help, and always connect with my peers to make up missed classes/assignments. I am able to communicate my thinking and knowledge to others clearly, and never give up until I find an answer to my problem. A second strength of mine is my organizational skills. This is a goal I set for myself during grade 9 that I finally reached. Learning to keep track of my responsibilities removed layers of unnecessary stress, ultimately allowing me to feel more confident. I show my communication skills by making the effort to go see my teachers after missed classes and asking for help when needed. For instance, I decided to take an LRC block for some extra support, and an open space to ask questions. This one-on-one time has also greatly contributed to my strong organization skills. Having this time in my mornings allows me to prioritize, and plan out my days. A new goal I am setting for myself is learning to manage my time efficiently. Although I am organized, I still struggle with my time management and maximizing my focus during work blocks. In order to reach this new goal of mine, I plan to work for short periods of time separated by small breaks, ensuring that my phone is out of reach in the time I’m working. When confused or overwhelmed, I tend to run away from the problem and towards the distractions. I aim to work on this skill over the summer during summer school to have stronger school skills for the start of grade 12.
