Core Competency Reflection

In English 10, we did multiple activities that required me to make brochures, posters, and other assignments that we had to add some artistic touch to. One example of this was the short story one pager. I did mine on The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty. This was a great demonstration of creative thinking and developing my ideas because while I was reading the short story, I always visualize it in my head, like a movie. When we had to draw three images and symbols of the story for the assignment, I had to develop the scene I saw in my head. I had a clear visualization of what it would look like, and I drew it. The drawing ended up really good, and I am proud of it. This demonstrates developing my ideas because I showed what I saw in my head while reading the story and I drew it.

I’ve grown the most in communication. I used to stay quiet during discussions, and now I talk a little more than before. An example of this is, again, in English 10, during our literary circles. In our literary circles, I was one of the people who participated the most in our discussions and gave some insightful responses to the other people’s work. That was the most I had ever spoken during discussions, and it was mostly because I was in a group with one of my friends, Po Yiu. I also slightly knew the other two people in our group, so that is why I felt more at ease when sharing my ideas. That was the most fun I had had during literary circles. I talked more, and I participated in discussion more.

Next, I will focus on developing social responsibility by volunteering more for more volunteer hours and helping the community more so that I can get a good university application and a good impression on the universities. I can do this by volunteering my time more to things like martial arts, helping with some kids, whether that be babysitting or just volunteering at my church for the kids ministry, or getting a job somewhere. I do alright with children, so I can use that to my advantage and help with some things that involve them. For a job, I have already been looking at a few places, and having a job and work experience could help my university application and future references for future career opportunities. In other words, I must get myself out into the community more and put myself out there.
