Hello! My name is Kartar Kalsi, and here I am going to share my experience on November 1st to take our kids to work day! So, on TOKTWD (Take Our Kid to Work Day) I went to a Vegan bakery that my mother works in. It is located in Nanaimo St, Vancouver, BC. it is called To Live for Bakery. In this bakery they have distinct types of pastries; like, cake, croissants, cookies, bread, Nanaimo bars, cake-pops, soft serve, and many others. You could pair a cup of coffee with some pastries from the bakery, they have a variety of coffee for you to choose from, but if you do not drink coffee do not worry, they have cold pressed juice for you to choose from. On this day i had a wonderful experience about what work you can do in a bakery.I noticed that people were lining up to get stuff from the bakery the lines were very long, they would wait in line for a long time just to get some pastries or cakes. So that made me realise no matter how good something is you will have to wait for it to slowly approach you, example getting good scores, you have to study hard to get good grades you cant just not study at all and expect to pass like wonders, Unless your very very very very smart.
First of all I was provided with the information and was shown all the utensils used in the kitchen as well as the big oven where the bakers bake.
The kitchen was very well maintained and hygienic, all bakers wore gloves and hats to maintain proper hygiene. Later, I helped my mother bake cakes and clean up, including the dishes. Her coworkers and the owner were all exceedingly kind and friendly. I indeed had a wonderful time.
- What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?
When I entered the bakery the smell of pumpkin spice mixed with coffee was flying around me which was then interrupted by the sound of the coffee machine, the barista was making some coffee for a customer. I then saw some cookies and other pastries on display at the counter, I wanted to have them all one by one.
2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up everyday to attend work
The work environment was very lovely, the staff and owner were all exceedingly kind and friendly, there was music playing in the background and everyone was having fun singing along. No one ignored someone when they needed a hand with help, they were indeed kind and helpful.
3.What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?
I do not think it would discourage anyone for going to work, they even have free candy for the staffs
4.What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?
Different people from different countries were working together in one place filled with laugh. And you know there is this saying ‘Bakers make the world smell better’
