Core Competencies

Hello Everyone, Welcome Back to my Blog.

Today, I am going to talk about core competencies and what mine have been throughout this past year.

This year was my second year at Charles Best, where I got to meet many new people, make new friends, and enhance my critical thinking and communication skills. I am not an introvert, but I am also not someone who can easily get along with others at once. It takes me a little bit of time to open up, and I have always been a bit scared to do so. Communication has always been a weak point for me, but this year, I had the opportunity to improve this skill, and I am proud that I got through it.

Communication Skills

For French this year, I delivered a speech in front of my entire class about innovations in aerospace, from hypersonic flight to hypoxia training. This was a way for me to learn how to speak in front of a large group of people and how to engage the audience with my speech. Additionally, we worked on a year-long project where we were divided into teams and competed with our classmates in different activities. For example, in the spaghetti tower challenge, we had to communicate and give instructions to our teammates entirely in French. As a core French student, it was tough to speak only in French, but I enjoyed it as a challenge and a learning experience.

Critical Thinking

My critical thinking skills were significantly developed in Biology 11. This class was a unique experience for me as a Grade 10 student in a Grade 11 class. We had a semester-long project where we had to create an experiment, test it, and make a comprehensive report on it. Along with all that, we had to present a grand proposal. During this time, I also learned communication skills because I was working in a team of three people. Our experiment was on the soil-plant system versus hydroponics. This tough adventure required us to apply critical thinking at every step.

Social Responsibility and Teamwork

In Physical Education (PE), I developed my sense of social responsibility and teamwork. We participated in various team sports and activities where we had to rely on each other, communicate effectively, and support one another. These experiences taught me the importance of being a responsible team member and contributing positively to group efforts. Whether it was organizing a game strategy or encouraging a teammate, PE helped me understand the value of collaboration and social responsibility.

Conclusion

Overall, this year at Charles Best has been a transformative experience for me. I have improved my communication, critical thinking, and social responsibility skills through various classes and projects. Meeting new people and working in teams has helped me grow as a person, and I am proud of the progress I have made. I look forward to continuing to develop these core competencies in the future.
