Core Competency 11

Hello everyone, Welcome Back to my Blog!

Today, I am excited to reflect on the first semester of this school year and talk about my core competencies—skills that have helped me grow academically and personally. This semester has been filled with learning, leadership, and personal development, and I am proud to share the progress I’ve made.

Communication Skills

This semester, my communication skills reached new heights, especially in French. I had the opportunity to collaborate with new classmates, including students from French Immersion, which pushed me to improve my language skills in a collaborative setting. Together, we created and presented a dialogue entirely in French. This project was both fun and challenging, as it required us to work on pronunciation, fluency, and teamwork. Through this experience, I not only improved my ability to communicate in French but also made new friendships that I deeply value. Stepping out of my comfort zone and engaging with others in a new language helped me build confidence in my communication abilities.

Critical Thinking

My critical thinking skills were greatly enhanced in Entrepreneurship this semester. I worked with a group of friends to create our own business from the ground up. This involved brainstorming ideas, developing a detailed business plan, and presenting our project. We spent nearly half the semester analyzing different aspects of the business, such as finances, marketing strategies, and product design. This experience required me to think analytically, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions. I learned how to evaluate situations, adapt to challenges, and contribute innovative ideas to ensure our business was successful. It was a valuable opportunity to apply critical thinking in a real-world context.

Social Responsibility and Leadership

This semester, I also had the opportunity to demonstrate social responsibility and leadership through my involvement in school activities. I played an active role in helping organize the Orange Shirt Day assembly, which is an important event to raise awareness about Indigenous history and residential schools. Being part of this event taught me the importance of supporting meaningful causes and contributing to my school community. I also took initiative in other leadership activities, ensuring everything was well-organized and impactful for the audience. These experiences allowed me to grow as a responsible leader who values teamwork, empathy, and inclusion.

Collaboration and Supporting Others

In Peer Tutoring, I had the privilege of supporting an international student with their assignments and academic progress. This role taught me patience, understanding, and the importance of providing clear, step-by-step guidance to help someone succeed. It was a rewarding experience to see the students improve and gain confidence in their work. Peer tutoring also reinforced the value of collaboration—working together to overcome challenges and achieve goals. By building a trusting and supportive relationship with the student, I developed my leadership and mentorship abilities.

Conclusion

This semester has been an incredible journey of growth and learning. Through French, Peer Tutoring, English, and Entrepreneurship, I have improved my communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills. Each experience has contributed to my personal development and given me valuable lessons that I will carry forward. I am proud of the progress I have made and look forward to continuing to build these core competencies in the future.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I can’t wait to see what next semester brings!
