Take your kid to work day

On November 1st for take your kid to work day, I went to work with my dad. He is a truck driver at Sunbelt rentals. Our day started at 6am which I did not like. We drank coffee in the break room while the truck was heating up, then they gave me a safety vest, gloves, and a helmet. For our first job, we drove to Surrey to pick up a machine that we then brought to YVR. It was really cold, but I got to see a really nice sunrise in Surrey. At YVR, they had very strict security and I was not allowed inside the gate with my dad so I had to get out of the truck and wait outside for an hour. That was not the most fun. After YVR, we went to UBC to pick up a machine which we brought back to my dad’s work in Coquitlam. We ate lunch in the break room. For our last job, we went to Langley to pick up a machine from a movie set. I do not know what they were filming, but there was this cabin and a big cave. We went inside the cave and it was so cool and huge. The cave was made from styrofoam and plastic, but it looked very realistic. We took the machine back to my dad’s work in Coquitlam and un-loaded it. We ended our day at 3pm.

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. Ist?

I saw lots of security and strict safety protocols as well as many huge machines, truck and other vehicles. I heard beeping, yelling, banging, driving, and clunking noises, I smelled cigarettes, fried food, dirt, and gasoline. I felt cold and tired.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

What would motivate me to wake up would be seeing the sunsets and seeing all the cool movies sets.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

What would discourage me from waking up for work would be the cold and early mornings.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

I found it very interesting seeing the movies sets and how they make the sets look so realistic. Right now because of the writers strike there is not much film going on but we went to two movie sets. One was in this work yard and they set it up to look like a campsite. They had a massive cave that you could walk through which I think was made out of Styrofoam but it looked extremely realistic.
