For bring your kid to work day, I decided to spend the whole day at home with my dad since he works from home. He is an entrepreneur who is currently working on a coding project so I was beside him while he coded during the day. While working, he was able to teach me a bit and in general, it was a very interesting experience. Since he is also still learning more on how to code each day, we spent the first section in the morning just learning more codes that could be useful for his project. Afterwards, he started working on the actual project by adding more codes and fixing bugs if he found any in the codes. The whole day consisted of a lot of trials and errors while he worked to complete more of his project while I watched beside him and tried to help in any way I could. Overall, it was a fun day and I learned a lot about what it was like coding and working
What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st? – Because my dad is an entrepreneur and works at home, I was home almost all day at the dinner table, which is where he works. Because of that, everything feels similar to when I do my homework because I also do it at the dinner table.
What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work? – I think one motivational point is the fact that my dad works at home, because of that, we didn’t have to leave the house to go anywhere. Another motivational point is that because he is technically his own boss, there isn’t any very specific schedule that he follows each day, and we are not forced to get up very early each day to drive and get to his workplace on time. For him, if he gets what he believes is enough work done each day, he’s fine.
What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work? – One possibility could be the fact that because as an entrepreneur, you’re the one in charge, you can sometimes feel like everything is your responsibility because no one else is going to be able to help you because, to some extent, that is true. If you run into a big problem with one of the codes you’ve been working on, you must be able to figure out that problem by yourself.
What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit? – One thing I found interesting is something that my dad told me about his work. He said that he enjoys his work because each day is unpredictable. Each day will bring something different with what he’s working on, sometimes he feels he may have worked hard for a long time but overall, his situation doesn’t seem to have really changed. Other times, he may feel he hasn’t worked for too long, but his project has still improved. I found that quite interesting.
