Core Competencies

Core Competencies

Creative thinking:

In English 9 I did a play on a Mid-Summer Nights Dream which required creative thinking, in that process we had to create a set, find or make costumes, and find ways to project my lines and how we would arrange ourselves. A goal I have for the future under the creative thinking category is challenging myself to come up with new innovative ideas regularly and if something doesn’t seem possible, to try my best.

Communication:

In Science 10 I  work on many labs which requires communication from both partners. During the Chemistry unit we had to mix different chemicals and papers which required communication for what we both saw happening in the experiment. A goal that I have for communication is public speaking and presenting, I eventually want to express myself in bolder presentations and speak more during them.

Critical Thinking:

An example of Critical Thinking is Math 10. I asked questions and carefully analyzed what the questions were asking and double checking my answers to make sure they looked correct and making sure that I was understanding all the concepts of math.

Social Responsibility:

I took the Social Responsibility course in grade 9 and learned a lot from it. We got to post edublogs about our interests and got to read other peoples blogs, video call and read blogs about  kids our age from Kenya. We got to raise money by creating fundraisers as a class and selling baked goods to give the money to the less fortunate kids from Kenya in need of education.

Positive Personal and Cultural Identity:

This year I took choir as a way to try something new that I hadn’t done before, I’ve always enjoyed singing and found it a great way of expressing myself not only with my voice but with sound and lyrics. Choir is a great way of working with other people who can lift up your talents or hobbies that you enjoy and the lyrics often reflect on personal experiences that many people can connect with.

Collaboration:

This year I took Drama 10 to step out of my comfort zone. I got to meet many new people and some who also took the course for the same reason that I did. In Drama we get to be apart of plays which involves collaboration. An example of this is the play I am currently doing which is a 10 person play. I have learned that listening to people and giving positive feedback and tips rather than criticism is crucial to be successful.

How Many People Think Manifestation Really Works?

Reflection questions:

  1. What is the overall topic and the goal of your project?

My overall topic was “how many people think manifestation really works?

The goal for my project was to figure out what percentage of people believe that manifestation really works and why they believe it is real, and if others thought otherwise, how many did and why did they think that? I have always been so interested and found manifestation so fascinating and what impact manifestation has on lives. I want to learn more about manifestation now especially since it is starting to be talked about more on social media and has gotten more recognization.

2. What sites did you use to collect your data and create the infographic and what did you learn about it?

The sources I used were Insight Timer (blog), USA today, Berkeley Well Being, Shaneco, and Psychology Today. When I was using these sources I learned about the different perspectives about how people see manifestation and how professionals manifest. I also learned that 52% of people in the US believe the power that manifestation holds, leaving 48% of people that think otherwise. However, only 28% of people practice intently bringing something touchable into their lives by manifesting. There was not much information about the percentages of people who believe that manifestation is real but I searched multiple reliable resources and I was able to find accurate information.

I used the website Canva to create my infographic. There are so many different design options to choose from along with cool fonts, colours, and other little decoration stickers to add a pop of shapes or designs to my infographic.

3. How has the process of utilising these sites impacted your understanding of how technology can change (or help) the world?

The process of utilising these sites really impacted my understanding of how technology can change/help the world. I discovered this when taking important phrases from blogs and articles and turning them into my own words and thinking from my perspective about how I would say what they had used. Another tip I found useful was when I found a phrase I knew what they were talking about but just couldn’t understand the fancy words used I would google the definition for a more clear understanding. Another example is when I was using Canva. You could take already existing work and turning it into your own work by adding whatever you wanted or taking away whatever you wanted.
