Core Competencies

Communication:

In my Communications 9 class, I learned how to acquire, interpret, and present information to my classmates. For example, throughout many skits, I learned how to engage in conversation in preparing for the play. Since my teacher set a short time limit for the preparation, I had to use the time very wisely and productively by collaborating with others and making the script using various French expressions and challenging vocabulary. Not only expressing my opinions, but I also had to consider listening to others’ points of view and ideas to make quick decisions. Moreover, the division of tasks rolled as an important factor in our communication because we discussed what role each of us would play until all of us compromised and were satisfied.

Creative Thinking:

In my Communications 9 class, I learned how to generate and develop my ideas. The project ‘Pecha Kucha’ was an excellent example of creative thinking since it required me to create a story that was inspired by the theme of French fables. By reading numerous fables for this project, I was able to awaken my creativity and create a story using my unique literary voice. Choosing the setting, protagonist and antagonist, theme, and more, took quite a while, for I had to make multiple revisions and edits until I was finally satisfied.  Because of the time limit for this project, I had to simplify the story, yet keep it intriguing for others. As a result, I received a high mark on this project which I am still proud of.
