Core Competencies Assessment

My core competencies self-assessment

COMMUNICATION

During group projects, I enjoy talking and connecting with others. When I first started French immersion, I was hesitant to speak, since I couldn’t come up with the words I wanted. Over time, I was able to share my ideas and opinions more easily. I put in effort to find new vocab words that will help me communicate with others. I enjoy meeting and talking to new people, as well as finding personal connections. I can continue to work on my communication skills, though, since miscommunication continues to happen.

CRITICAL THINKING

I had to create a roller coaster for a science class (with a friend), and the marble wouldn’t do the loop. We stayed after school for hours to figure it out, and finally realized the cause: the loop wasn’t smooth enough for the marble. We had to completely remove the loop and remake it, then put it back. It worked a little better, but still wasn’t perfect. We used critical thinking to resolve that problem, as well. I don’t enjoy using critical thinking (especially during math), but I continue to work on using it.

PERSONAL AND CULTURAL IDENTITY

I am aware and comfortable with my personal and cultural identity, since I grew up in my own culture before moving to Canada. At home, I each cultural foods, and celebrate my culture. My culture and language are huge parts of my identity. I continue to learn more about my culture and language (like slang), and I’ll bring it up if it’s relevant. During a socials project about the middle east, I reflected on my experiences there, and my relationship with it. I love learning about different cultures, as well as my own.
