You want to comment on someone’s blog. What should you do before posting?
- Think before posting & stay kind
What you’re posting is going to be there forever – this is the internet, after all! Think twice before sharing your comment. Another thing to note is to stay kind; if someone commented something like what you’re commenting on your blog, would you like to see it? - Constructive criticism is fine
If you see something that you think shouldn’t be there, or see something that could help improve the blog, feel free to share! The comments shouldn’t make fun of someone or be negative. - Keep the comments on topic
If the post is talking about the persons favourite quote, please don’t start talking about food – unless their quote talks about food and you have something you’d like to share. - Use proper grammar
If you’re sharing a longer comment, be sure to use good grammar. It’ll be easier to understand what you’re trying to say. Please keep things more organized to help everyone out. - No spamming/links, please!
Do not include links to your comment, unless it’s directly related to what you’re trying to say and you’re answering a question about the post itself. Even so, I’d prefer that you write what you’re trying to say instead of adding a bunch of links. Another thing is not to copy and paste your comment a bunch of times. It’s annoying and doesn’t reflect well on you. - Keep it short and sweet – don’t ramble!
If you’re going to write me an essay, do it on your own blog, please. Don’t write a comment longer than my post and don’t repeat yourself a lot (it can get boring) - Read the post before commenting
Some people don’t read the post and comment something that’s totally off topic or that add nothing meaningful to the conversation. Share something worth sharing, or don’t say anything at all! - No swearing
Please don’t swear and keep everything appropriate for everyone.
A comment that would be appropriate:
That’s a nice quote! I love your reasons for sharing. Here’s one of my favourite quotes ‘Be yourself; everyone else is already taken’. I like it because it reminds me that everyone is unique.
This comment shares the persons opinion and can start a conversation. It has good grammar and its’s kind.
