Communication

As the starting point guard and one of the prominent leaders on the senior boy’s basketball team this year I have had to use my voice to encourage our team through-out multiple games. Communication is a critical part of team sports, you must be fully transparent with your teammates, relaying advice and commands thoroughly and quickly. My experience with the Charles Best senior boy’s basketball team has helped me find my voice, and my ability to converse with others.

Social responsibility

For PE 10 this year I have a mixed class with 9th graders. Although I was not excited about the situation at first, I realized how it has helped me be a better leader. Being in 10th grade I have completed many sports and activities done in the PE 9 curriculum. This class has provided me with the chance to show what I know by assisting others in more advanced skills during figures unite, intern making me a better leader.

Core Competencies

Communication

As a ninth-grader on the Charles Best senior basketball team, I gained a lot of experience in effective communication with senior players. We had breaks at halftime or in between sessions, which helped us interact a lot. Whether it was a basketball move or a play we could execute, throughout practices we would do practically everything together and talk a lot to understand each other and each other’s perspectives. We frequently talk to one another and plan out how to win games or score buckets when we’re playing. Playing basketball has improved my ability to converse with others and have a deeper understanding of them.

Creative thinking

In my information technology 9 class, I completed a variety of tasks using Photoshop, PowerPoint, Scratch, Word, Excel,  We created a game using the software Scratch, and the assignment helped me think imaginatively about computers and coding. It encouraged me to use my imagination more and think beyond the box. I displayed my creative thinking skills by creating a game in which a zebra ran away from other animals and attempted to collect colorful apples to earn more points. This coding program required an unusual amount time and effort, but it pushed me to become a more creative thinker.

Social responsibility

This year, I began doing track and field and was fortunate to win a silver medal in the Jr boys high jump provincials. As a result, it provided me with the opportunity to assist differently abled children within my school with their track events. During our lunch break, I helped plan sessions on our school’s field to help the other kids get acquainted to sprinting, jumping, and throwing methods. I had to take pride in my responsibility of volunteering at practices and assisting with various tasks that our schools differently abled children needed. Sometimes kids had issues that I couldn’t help them with, but witnessing how the teachers handled it helped me become more responsible. This was probably the most significant, and impactful thing I did this year.
