Creative Thinking and Social Awareness and Responsibility in my First Semester of Grade 10

Creative Thinking

I think of myself as a creative thinker because I enjoy creating things and learning new ways to do things. I used to be basic and would just do what I was asked to without thinking, but now I’ve come to realize that it’s important to really think about what you’re doing. For example: in my Woodwork 9 class, we had a bit less freedom than in my current Woodwork 11 class, but still could sort of have our own designs and ideas. I tried hard to match the example of the project the entire class was doing and didn’t really think much of it. Now, in my Woodwork 11 class, we have a bit more freedom to do what we want and now I’m branching out and creating my own ideas. I’m currently making a coffee table and am loosely following a template. I’ve made several adjustments so that it looks nicer and is more functional, like creating screw covers to hide the galvanized screws that I used, which turned out good.  I’ve also started taking the bus to go buy food from a grocery store instead of buying cafeteria food or leftovers just to branch out and have fun with friends.

Social Awareness and Responsibility

I am a very empathetic person, so when I see someone looking sad for whatever reason, I tend to notice them before other people. I try my best to make everyone feel welcome and respected as much as I can. Also, I see myself as a responsible and aware person, and I know when something has gone too far and how to avoid angering or hurting someone. I don’t like breaking rules, but I don’t stick to them like glue. Some rules are made to be broken and some are just straight up outrageous. It’s important to be aware of why rules are made and what might be the consequences of breaking them. In all my classes, especially my Woodwork class, I try to be as careful and safe as possible, but still be efficient. This applies to other classes, but in a different way: contribute to team projects, but leave a fair amount for your teammate(s), contributing to class discussions, but not answering every question, etc.
