Take Your Kids To Work Day!

My Workplace Visit Experience

On November 6th, I visited LaSalle College Vancouver. My mom, who is a teacher, was busy with her own work, so I explored the campus on my own with permission, I visited different departments like cooking, game design, and fashion design, each one offering something unique and exciting. The creative energy in this college was inspiring, and very fun. Students were collaborating and sharing their ideas ;moreover, it made me curious about my future in university. LaSalle had lots of colorful displays and the cafeteria seemed so fun and it also owned a ping pong table. Furthermore , I personally would not be able to work at such place, I noticed how my mother struggled with some of her students being distracted, so the amount of patience she has is unbelievable! I could never see myself working as a teacher because I simply don’t have the patience.

 Core Competencies

After reviewing the core competencies, I chose “Creative Thinking” because it connects well with my assignment. This competency involves generating new ideas, which is exactly what I needed when using AI to create a unique image for my footstool. I had to give clear and descriptive instructions to Copilot in order to get my beautiful racecar.

Learning from Digital Tools

Using AI to create the image taught me about how AI with a little bit of detail can create an image that you had in your mind. The biggest benefit was the ability to generate good-quality, designs that matched my vision. However, one of the challenges was understanding the AI’s capabilities and limitations—it took me some time and  experimentation to get the image just right and ensure it was suitable for printing.

Application in Other Courses

I believe that this digital tool could be useful in courses like Art or Drafting. For example, in an Art class, I could use AI to create interesting designs or patterns for projects like posters . In a Design course, the tool could help visualize concepts quickly, allowing me to refine ideas more efficiently. It would be beneficial because it makes the process more quick and efficient. In Drafting, I could use AI to quickly generate ideas for architectural designs or  layouts, helping to find different options and examples, before starting a final project.
