Communication

In FCLE10, I participated in a mock interview, which was an excellent example of my communication skills, as it demonstrated that I was able to discuss myself positively while still engaging in conversation. I will focus on developing my communication competency by going out of my comfort zone and engaging in small talk with those I don’t know to strengthen communication.

Creative Thinking

In English 10, I completed a project where I had to create a piece of art related to a book of my choice. What made it difficult was that I was not allowed to recreate something that already existed, so I had to think outside of the box and create something that was both related to the book as well as new to it. I will focus on developing my creative thinking by reading more books over the summer to help my creative flow.

Critical Thinking

In Science 10, I developed my critical thinking skills by asking critical questions. I mainly do this in all of my classes; however, it was particularly more noticeable in my Science 10 course. I will continue to develop this skill by making sure I understand whole concepts, and if I don’t understand a full part of it, go into depth and make sure everything makes sense to me.

Social Responsibility

In French 10, I developed my social responsibility by taking part in the “Kiva Project.” In that project, we raised money by selling numerous things such as baked goods, chips, and drinks. All the money we made went towards the less fortunate people all around the world in the form of micro-loans. I will continue to develop my social responsibility by being more considerate of those less fortunate than me and helping them out in any way I could.

Personal and Cultural Identity

In Foods 10, I developed this competency from our final project to research and cook food that is ethnic to a certain country. After doing this project, I decided that I wanted to explore in my own culture and started researching how my own favorite Persian foods came to be. I can strengthen this competency by further researching more foods and possibly even cooking them.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility

In PHE 10, I was able to develop my personal awareness and responsibility while we were in our weight lifting unit. I had to use all the allotted time efficiently to ensure everything I needed to complete in one day ended up getting finished. At the end of each class, I then had to do a self reflection to check if I really was as efficient as I needed to be and what I could work on the next day. I could further develop this skill by doing self reflections at the end of each day to see if my day truly was productive.

When I went to Paris over the summer, I was able to speak to and communicate with the locals. One time, when me and my family were stuck in the subway, I went and started asking people for directions and they helped us get to where we needed to go.

Again, when I was in Paris, I really loved using my French skills at any opportunity given. I remember one time I ordered food and the waitress complimented my speaking skills and it really boosted my confidence and encouraged me to speak even more French than before.

Although my skill level speaking French is not as good as a French-speaking person, I still feel like I am somehow a part of their community. I learn, speak, and hear French every day so it would be wrong if it was not a part of my identity.

Thinking about creating this piece of digital art and the Edublog posts, how have your digital knowledge and skills improved this year? Be specific and give at least one example.

Creating digital art and maintaining Edublog posts this year have significantly improved my digital knowledge and skills. At the beginning of the year, I was not too familiar with digital tools and my knowledge was very vague. I mainly only knew how to edit and create things using simple tools that are provided with whatever program I am using. However, after practicing and doing DL assignments, I have learned how to use some more complex tools and I am much more familiar with Edublog. One specific example of my improvement is when I had to create my coast Salish art hummingbird. If I had been given this assignment earlier on in the year, I would have most certainly made many mistakes and I would have not known how to use concepts that were taught in person. To add on, writing and formatting Edublog posts has improved my abilities in online creation. I learned how to embed media into my posts, add permalinks, and make my work more look more appealing. I also learned how to fact check my information and how to avoid Copyright issues. This course has made me more confident with my abilities and has helped me learn more about technology and social media.

ChatGPT is a successful that leads the future of AI unknown. It could be used for better and for worse, so it is important to be cautious while you use it. AI was originally used to help movie productions but has shifted towards helping everyday people. OpenAI released a beta version of ChatGPT, and it is a chatbot that uses variants of transformer architecture to generate human-like text. It can be used to help the government, save time and resources and it creates high-quality written content without wasting money or resources. However, it is important to note that it is not a replacement for human writers since it lacks creativity, critical, and empathetical thinking. ChatGPT has taken over by storm and it is our future.

- What was your experience in using AI?
I had a good experience since I was provided with good information specific to what I was searching. However, it was difficult for me to ask the perfect question so it would provide me with the answer I needed.
- Was the paragraph the AI generated accurate? Fact-check any new information and see if it’s true.
It was pretty accurate and it talked about many of the same things that I discussed in my own paragraph. I do not believe that it is giving me biased information since it not only talked about how it is beneficial, it also talked about how it lacked certain important writing aspects.
- Was the exercise useful? How can this help you with your learning going forward?
I would say this exercise was useful since it made me realize that AI-generated content will not be as reliable as I would expect it to be. I learned that I am able to use it to help me with basic question answering and a comparison for writing, but never as a main source since it can be lacking background information and emotion that would be necessary.
- Were your results expected? Yes or No? Explain
My results were expected since I did think it would provide me with adequate information and it even surprised me with how similar it was to the answer I was searching for. I also have experimented with ChatGPT in the past so I had the expectation of it taking a while to answer it in the way that I wanted it to, but I got it in the end.

Communication

In French 9, I did an oral test, which was an excellent example of communi0cation because I needed to talk about a comparison of slavery in America and the things that happened to First Nations in Canada. I had a one-on-one conversation with my teacher, and he also presented me with a couple questions regarding the struggles First Nations in America had to endure. I was able to keep the conversation’s flow with minimal hesitation, and I believe it showed my communication well.

Creative Thinking

In Social Studies 9 I did a journal project about the French Revolution, which was an excellent example of creative thinking because I needed to write from the perspective of other people. I had to write the journal as if I was a citizen in the French Revolution and I feel like I displayed good creativity since I was very fluent while writing. I also came up with fun facts, public announcements, and easy puzzles that corresponded to the writing in the journal to give it more detail. Overall, I did very well on this project, and I think it demonstrated my creative thinking nicely.

Critical Thinking

In French 9, I did a book report, which was an excellent example of critical thinking because I had to critically analyze the book that I read to present it to the class. I needed to memorize a couple of questions and present parts of the book to my class for 5 minutes without notes. I think that this assignment was a good reflection of my critical thinking

Social Responsibility

In Digital Learning, I did an assignment where I drew an animal using the First Nations art style, which was an excellent example of social responsibility because I am recognizing other cultures. I learned about the basic information behind the beautiful pieces of art, and I think it is important to learn about them since it is good to have awareness of what goes on in your own country

Personal and Cultural Identity

In French 9, I did an introduction project, which was an excellent example of personal identity because I needed to introduce myself to the class. I told them about my hobbies, the foods I enjoyed, about my family, etc. I told the class about my ethnicity and culture, and I think this is an amazing example of personal identity because I was able to tell the class who I am and important things about me.

Personal Awareness and Responsibility

In volleyball, I worked hard, which was an excellent example of personal awareness and responsibility because I realized that this is the sport that I wanted to play, and I worked to improve my skill. I reflected on the fact that I wanted to get better at the game. I put in time in effort to get better and I am overall pretty happy with my journey.

2. This article was written by The Independent, an award-winning British online newspaper that was established in 1986. According to Wikipedia, The Independent is a trustworthy news source.

3. Next, I searched on Snopes.com to see if the story is real.

I did not seem to get any results. There is still a chance that it is real though.

4. I searched on the internet to see if there are any other articles reporting the same news.

There were many online sources that were also reporting that Trisha Paytas is welcoming baby number 2.

This is Trisha Paytas’s Instagram account where she has created 2 posts about her baby on the way.

In conclusion, this story is real and Trisha Paytas is pregnant with a new baby.

TOKTWD

On TOKTWD, I went to work with my dad. My dad works in the construction industry, and he owns a construction company for luxury homes. At the moment, my dad is working on a custom house for a client. The house is almost done since he has been working on it for a couple of years now. When I was there, there wasn’t anything planned for that day since the plumber had canceled the week before. Instead, we were just focused on working on the little things, and we were trying to connect the TV to the Wi-Fi without the TV shutting down. We were able to connect the TV to the Wi-Fi, and it didn’t end up shutting down. My dad was also working on a bench swing for the sundeck, and it was left unfinished in the garage. I helped him build the rest of it and then we carried it to the sundeck

1. What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 1st?

There was not much to hear other than people communicating. After talking with my dad, he told me today was a very slow day since they didn’t really have much planned and how other days of the week had more commotion. Before stepping into the house, I could see that it would be a very luxurious living establishment. t was very well-lit, constructed, and organized. The house isn’t finished yet so there isn’t any furniture in the house, but I can tell it will look very cozy soon. As I said earlier, today was a slow day and there wasn’t much going on, so the only thing I was able to smell was wet paint that has been drying for a couple of days now. I felt kind of powerful since my dad was a boss and sometimes, he would tell me to tell his employees what to do.

2. What about the environment would motivate you to wake up every day to attend work?

The environment that has been created feels very uplifting and comfortable, I would feel motivated to wake up every day and attend work here since everybody around was very nice. Knowing that the house will look very good in the end is a deal breaker as well. There is also a big market for luxury houses now, so their paychecks are big, which is a big plus.

3. What about the work environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

When my dad was giving me a tour of the house, one of his workers was trying to turn on the television but it kept disconnecting and the connection was very sensitive. This means that not everything goes the way you want it to and lots of things can go wrong. If there are small miscommunications, a lot of things can get messed up, such as the schedule, maybe one day you need someone to work on something and you schedule them for a Tuesday and you schedule someone else to work on what they worked on the day after. If the person you scheduled for Tuesday doesn’t show up or thought they were scheduled for the next Tuesday, there’s nothing for the person after them to do and everything just doesn’t go according to plan.

4. What is ONE thing you found interesting about your workplace visit?

One thing I found interesting about my workplace is all the new and advanced perks and tricks the house has. For example, this may sound a little funny, but there was a hovering toilet. Another example is the showers/baths that have massagers built in, which is very nice. My last example is a built-in coffee maker, which I have never seen before.
