Final Product: Podcast

Hello! Welcome back to my edu blog 🙂

For my final assignment, I chose to make a podcast. My overall topic and goal for this project was to find out how the digital world has changed my guest speaker, Dr. Manbeena Sekhon, a clinical phycologists work and career in the last couple years. I used the tool ‘Anchor.fm’ to create a podcast that could be uploaded directly to a viewing website. I learnt how easy it was to start a podcast and the basics of working one along the way. Creating this with the help of my guest speaker and this tool made me further understand how much of a role the digital world plays in our lives. With making a podcast, I understood how easy it is to spread information in an interesting way that viewers can listen to anywhere and everywhere. Dr. Sekhon also explained to us how with the pandemic hitting affected her life with the digital world in a very important way. Click the link below to hear more!

Assignment # 7 Information Fluency: Baking

For my information fluency assignment, I decided to do my research on the topic “Baking”. As per World Book Online advanced’s article baking, “Baking is the process of cooking food using hot, dry air, usually in an oven”. The 4 most common ingredients used in almost every baked dish are wheat flour, sugar, salt and eggs. These 4 ingredients work together to form a dough or a batter of some sort. Doughs and batters are made of scientific formulas telling us science plays an important role in almost everything in our daily lives. The ingredients are “balanced according to how they chemically react” to make the perfect consistency. The liquids used in the recipe help lift the dough/ batter + give it the texture it needs. Baking has been something that has always been done in “wood-fired ovens made of clay, stone, or brick”. Over the years, this has changed with technology evolving and we have found easier ways of baking our favourite treats. Along with ways of baking evolving, recipes and ingredients have too. Baking soda, one of the most commonly used baking ingredients was founded in the early nineteenth century. This makes me wonder what people used as an alternative when baking soda didn’t exist? With these new ingredients being added, bakers were sure to teach others to balance the ingredients properly. To measure all ingredients properly is more important in baking than it is in cooking. As mentioned before, baking is done through following formulas which would only be possible if you follow it the right way, I hope you learnt a thing or two about baking by reading my mini write up on “Baking” for my “Information fluency assignment”

Hope to see you next time! 🙂

Proud of Assignment

From my first semester of grade 9, I was most proud of my “Short movie” assignment in my Info and Tech class. We were a group of 5, working on this assignment. Our movie ended up being funny to some and we loved every part of it. We got a good mark, learned how to edit and overall, had a fun time. Here are some pictures of scenes from it.

The movie was called “A Christmas Miracle” and it was about a robbery taking place during the Christmas season. If you would like to view our movie, comment below and I could attach the link!

Break the Fake Part 2

For the ‘Break the Fake Part 2’ assignment, I chose the article ‘900-year-old sword dating back to the Crusades found at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea’ on the CBS News website. This is how I fact checked my source:

SOURCE CHECKING:

First, I fact checked the source (CBC News) to see how trustworthy it could possible be. I found the news channels twitter page which had a verified check mark.

VERIFY THE SOURCE:

After finding the twitter page, I found a Wikipedia article talking about the history of CBS News and all the information seemed to be trustworthy. There was nothing about this news channel being fake or not reliable.

FACT CHECKING TOOL:

The next step I took was finding if the article was checked on the website snopes.com. I could not find the article on the website so I went to checking the source by searching the title with fake typed next to it.

CHECKING OTHER SOURCES:

No article talking about this incident being fake came up and multiple even gave supporting information. Looking at the articles that provided supporting information, I checked to see if there were any known reliable sources that were commonly heard of.

The New York Times, USA Today and The West News are all sources that are commonly used and were therefore trusted.

I would say this article is TRUE and reliable as the source is extremely reliable and many other sources support the information provided.
