Reflection
The overall topic was around the global semi-conductor/chip shortage that had started practically at the beginning of the pandemic. The goal of my data journalism project was to inform people on some of the key factors behind the event. This mainly being that the demand for the parts was slightly higher than usual and the country that produced the most semi-conductors had some internal problems. As we can see in the second graph (line graph), semi-conductors and their production affect many things in our modern world. One of them being cars/car production. We can see how their production dipped from the start of the pandemic in 2020 but has steadily been rising since. When I first chose the tool, “Data journalism”, I thought I would have just had to have written a small composition of data taken from multiple sources; however, I have found that making an infographic turned out to be highly effective and fun in comparison. Furthermore, beforehand, I had not even really known what an infographic was period. This tool has really shown me the different side of gathering and illustrating information, and how, through many different strategies, one can easily manipulate information and others’ minds along with it. It truly proved to be quite the interesting project.
