Table Tennis/Ping-pong

Summarizing Sources: Table Tennis

Firstly, the game is played as a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 game where players are on opposite sides of a 9ft by 5ft table, nets splitting the tables in half across the middle of the table in longitude, their main goals being to receive or hit the table tennis ball until the ball either bounces over the net off the opponent’s side and goes out, or when the opponent hits the ball out of the court. Then they talk about the history of sport, describing how it is said that it was created in England during the 1880s, and it became an official Olympic sport in Moscow 1980. The first source stated that though it was created in the United States, it became more of a competitive sport in some eastern parts of Europe and Asia. I also learned that the two big federations/groups that made tennis an international competitive sport were the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) which was founded in 1926 in Berlin, and the United States Table Tennis Association (USTTA), created in 1933 for oversees tournament play in the United States. The yearly national championships feature over 45 distinct divisions, including men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, junior and senior competitions, and competitors ranging in age from 10 to 75. In 1933, the USTTA became a member of the ITTF. I’m fascinated by the sport mainly because of the fact that I wanted to beat my dad in one game… He’s still better than me.  (;
