The Core Competencies that best represent me as person is Personal Awareness & Responsibility. The reason for this is that I take accountability for my actions and don’t place blame upon my classmates for group activities. Back in February I had a group presentation for EFP Literary Studies and Writing 11. My group completed the presentation and one of the group members wanted to go back through it and add information to the presentation we didn’t already to get a better mark. The next day me and the group member got into a small argument, since they thought I said to not go back and add the information. At this point I was sure I did tell them to go back and add the information if they wanted. However, instead of putting the blame on them for not listening properly. I choose to take responsibility and get mad at them for not doing what I thought they were going to do. Along with this I also have strategies to help me deal with stress and staying on task for work. For dealing with stress, I either fidget my hands or excuse myself to go for a walk to calm myself down. While staying on task, I play music to help me stay focused and if working on my computer. I hide the bottom tab for shortcuts to not look at the time to stay focused. Finally, I set goals for myself and concentrate on trying to achieve my goals. A goal that I have in my life is to eradicate the spanking law in Canada. The law grants parents/caregivers the right to use reasonable physical punishment as a form of discipline for a child. Ever since I learned about this law, it has made me frustrated on how this not only legal, but how people view this as okay. Achieving this goal will be very hard to achieve and won’t happen any time soon from being fulfilled. I most likely won’t be able to achieve this goal before someone else does. However, I am okay with this because the point of this goal is to remove this unjust law from the legal system and not be the sole person to do this. I hope this demonstrates how this core competency best reflects me as a person.
