For take your kids to work day I went to my dad’s workplace. He works at a scrap metal yard and what they do is basically buy scrap metal and separate the trash from the metal and sell it. I chose my dad’s workplace because I could work there and experience what he experiences everyday. I helped him move things and separate the metal. He also had me ride an excavator, it was really cool.
In the pictures above you can see a bunch of cars on the left one the excavators take those cars and compress them into squares with other metal and scrap. We can see this square in the middle picture, right above my shadow. And the left picture is a picture of the barrels used to store the scrap metal. They separate the different metal because each one is worth a different amount. Which makes selling them easier. I smelled a lot of gasoline and garbage because of the excavators. I saw a lot of metal and learned how much each was worth. I also heard a bunch of metal clanging together and some automatic saws. I felt many things like what different metal feel like and what metal splinters feel like. The thing that would motivate me to come back to the workplace is getting to work. The place might stink but I like the work there, its nice and calm. It’s like a linear line, but also with something new added every few weeks. The co-workers there are also very nice and make me want to come back.
