Assignment 8c: Infographic and data assignment

Image

  • What is the overall topic and the goal of your project?

The overall topic for my project is the most endangered species of rhinos. The goal of this project is to bring awareness to what’s going on around the world. The goal is to also ensure that people take the time and effort to care for not only the endangered species, but also the environment to ensure a nice and healthy life for both humans and animals.

  • What sites did you use to collect your data and create the infographic and what did you learn about it?

The sites I used were from ‘Our World In Data’, https://ourworldindata.org/rhino-populations , and the title of the data collection area is called The state of the world’s rhino populations. I learnt about all of the different species of rhinos and mainly the statistics to demonstrate their endangerment. I also learnt that it doesn’t matter what species they are, if they are endangered, we must always take caution and awareness to the situations theses poor animals are in.

  • How has the process of utilizing these sites impacted your understanding of how technology can change (or help) the world?

These statistics can help the world because if a rich or person in power came across these helpful sites, they can have awareness in the certain situations. This can lead to them using their power and money for the good. For example if there was an article talking about homeless dogs in a certain part of the world, the person who came across the article can help with adopting or taking care of the dogs. Technology is also very good for making people better versions of themselves. They could come across an article talking about a person being bullied or getting picked on and the person reading the article would potentially feel sorrow for the person getting bullied. The article could change their mindsets and attitudes for the better. Another example is with my chosen article. If a hunter or somewhat were to view the article, they could stop hunting those animals because they are now aware of the situations the rhinos are in.

In this blog, I will be summarizing an article about one of my main passions, soccer, but for a more specific description of what I will be summarizing is that Alex Morgan, one of the best female soccer players in the world, is showing people that the way to success is not what people would mainly think. One example inside of the article is that you should always have confidence in your abilities. if you do not have this mindset, you could not reach your full potential in soccer. this article also mentions about how you should never overwork yourself because of you don’t overwork yourself, you will become better than if you were to overwork yourself. Overworking is bad for your gameplay because you can either become really sore the next day, or you could hurt yourself and not even play at all.
But its not just overworking physically, if you overthink about soccer, then it could also affect your gameplay. Overthinking isn’t that good before your important game or event, if you do so, you will become super stressed about what you will do wrong and underestimate your abilities. Before a game day, players should always have a mental health day to do whatever makes them feel calm. For example, getting coffee, hanging out with your parents etc.. I know that over thinking isn’t a good thing in personnel experiences as well. for the school team, I kept on thinking I wouldn’t do good, so I kept on stressing over and over again until the day came and as I stepped on the field, I knew I wouldn’t be on my full capacity.
Another thing that this article has mentioned is that you should try to ignore what others think negatively about you. this point is pretty obvious to many, but a lot of people still forget about this really important aspect to become a better player.

That’s the end of my blog, thanks for reading!

Break the fake

On CBCnews, I found a website about 14 beams of light that shined above Montreal in honor pf victims of Polytechnique massacre.

  1. I checked Snopes and the information was not found, there were only things talking about flashlights.
  2. after that, I checked Wikipedia. There was no information talking about beams in Montreal whatsoever.
  3. I then went to google if i could find other articles about this topic. After researching, there were no links towards the topic.
  4. After my research, i came to the conclusion that this article is false.

“Take your kid to work day” by Adriana Dominelli

*Taken on my laptop*

Today, I visited my dad in his workplace. We didn’t have to travel whatsoever, as his workplace is in our basement. My dad is in the musical industry. He plays music, such as the electric guitar and the piano, but what he mainly does is help make and produce others music, that is what my dad did today and what I’ll be sharing with you guys today.

What did you hear, see, smell, and feel in the work environment on Nov. 2nd?

The workplace was not too big, but also not too small. The area was crowded with different varieties of guitars and pianos (what he plays mostly). the place had many speakers surrounding the room, which was quite intimidating. There was a triple screen computer on his desk, which is used to help create and make the music. I could hear a lot of different tracks and instruments, my dad would frequently replay the music he was working on (which was pretty annoying). The workspace smelt a lot like cardboard, like the stuff you would smell in Ikea. I felt very interested and intrigued by the amount of instruments my dad had, he even had a pink electric guitar that i would have never guessed he had.

What about the environment would discourage you from waking up every day to attend work?

One thing that would not make me motivated to waking up to attend work in that environment is the thought that I would need to spend all my time in front of a screen. As I get headaches really easily, this job path would not be a smart choice to choose for my own. To make it worse, I would need to do it for at least 5 days a week. Another reason is because this job path is the opposite type of work that i would rather be in the future, and that is something to do with sports. So if I were to have this as my career path, I wouldn’t be all that excited.

Blog posting rules

My personal 4 most favorite commenting rules are:

-No spamming

I think this rule is the most important to me because spamming always makes me feel somewhat little mad. Even if you spam something inspirational or kind, I will still always have a big feeling of annoyance.

-No foul language

It honestly depends on the post, but either way, I think foul language is a big no for me when commenting. I don’t even like foul language outside of posts, so I don’t see a reason why I would encourage foul language on posts.

-No off topic rants

I chose this rule mainly because I don’t see a point of someone commenting something that isn’t related to the post. If this were to occur on my post, I would just delete the comment.

-No imbedded links to another website

I chose this rule in two different reasons. The first one being that there is a very high chance of a web virus spreading on my computer. The second one being that the viewer may be distracted from the post i created.

Example of a good comment: Wow! This post is amazing! Continue with your amazing work and I’d love to see your improvement in your future blogs. Have an amazing day! 😊
