Core competencies – Grade 12

I demonstrated the ability to communicate and collaborate with others in my Chemistry 12 class. During group projects and labs, we collaborated and shared our data as well as communicating to split up the work load. When answering questions we brainstormed together before writing them down in our own words. I also communicated to my teachers when I would be away to catch up on the homework that I missed.

I showed creative thinking in Psychology during our current events project. We had to create a PowerPoint and have visual aids. This caused us to thing creatively about how we could present the project and keep the class interested.

I developed critical thinking during Chemistry 12 by analyzing asking questions. When there was something that I didn’t understand, I would look into it and do my research. This helped me to better understand the subject as well as the lab. I had to research more about our titration lab to understand what kind of result we were supposed to get as well as the graphs to understand the equivalence point.

Social responsibility helped to build relationships with friends and solve problems in peaceful ways. I developed this through openly communicated with my friends and teaches. I also developed social responsibility in my Chemistry class by knowing where to properly dispose of the chemicals.

The busy schedule taught me to develop personal awareness and responsibility my always setting aside time to work on myself. I did this through watching shows, baking or scrolling. Having everything planned out helped to reduce the stress and increase my motivation for work.

The last core competency I developed this year was related to social and personal skills. Meeting new people in different classes taught me to be flexible and learn how they do the given task. It helped to clear misunderstandings and complete the project on time. I was also able to learn how to work past problems and make compromises.

This was the titration lab in my Chemistry 12 class where we had to collaborate with each other to try and get the perfect titration. One person would slowly release the base drop by drop while one other person had to swirl the flask and finally one person was rinsing the base to fully mix it in. This taught collaboration and communication.
